What would my fellow dsmers recomend doing to that jdm engine before I put it in consider the following:
(besides of course changing fluids and timing belt)

I want a relyable daily driver
I would like to be mid 13's
I am not a drag racer even tho its fun sometimes, but I won't be running the strip too much, I want it to be strong enough for scca rallys and auto X.

I was thinking just going a head and putting rods, rings, and pistons in right away while its all nice and open, for higher boost and maybe in the future getting rid of the 14b and getting something like 16g.
And thoughts on a good clucth, I don't care if its hard to drive, I do that well suprisingly. Ohhh, I want to run pump gas!

Justin

If you are getting a complete engine, you might luck out and score a 16G.. Some of the JDM engines came with 16Gs and bigger 510cc injectors..(at least I think they are 510cc)

Whatever you do, don't believe the fraudulent claims of the sellers that the motors have 30,000-40,000 miles on them. I have never seen a front clip with less than 80,000 miles. That claims is such BS and TOTALLY unfounded.

Hi,
I also want to know a good place to get a JDM

im talking to ARDPERFORMANCE now, getting some info, Im getting ready to buy another.

Im interrested in getting a yellow top, but has anyone used one, is the trannies ok?

I was told some of the GVR4 trannes wont work? that its hit or miss?

I got a realy good deal on a used jdm gvr4 front end clip minus the body, from racinghard.com for $1000 plus shipping. It is a good deal if you don't mind waiting a little longer. 19k with 30 day start up waranty.

Did they ship it yet?

:dsm:

Ya, they shipped it, It takes 28 days to get hear. I would not recemend doing wire transfer because I did and it took along time to clear. I don't expect it for another 2 weeks so, I can leave some info then. They seem like a good company and gave me a free greddy bov for it taking so long. I asked them if they would include oil cooler with lines and axles and they did at no extra charge. I'll get back at ya in 2 weeks.

woah 1000 dollars for a clip seems like an awesome deal. Makes me feel dumb I paid 1200 for my motor. But the motor was in awesome condition.

ok two weeks ago my motor went to sh!t i havent tore it down yet so dont ask what happened...i do know that all 16 valves are smashed and the # 4 piston has a hole in it.

ok my question is if i get this cyclone motor is this goin to fit in my 2nd gen eclipse? am i just goin to follow the 6bolt into a 2nd gen information?
from what i have read i will lose a/c if im getting the right information out of this. please let me know if im not and what i need to do. i dont have the time or money to rebuld the motor or i would have just got a 6bolt to begin with.

The cyclone engine only merely has a different style of intake manifold that has flappers at the end of the intake ports. Just like Groomz said, follow standard 6-bolt into 2 generation procedures.

has anyone had success in swapping a jdm engine in to a 2g while keeping the cyclone intake and the? thanks

my buddy just ordered a jdm 4g63 from ardperformance a week ago and he called them today and they still havent shipped it. they also said its the last one they had till another shipment comes in, just to let you know. $1595 w. tranny. i am thinking of going this route when my motor blows just because its cheap and easy to do. but then again id like to build my own motor. OMG

There was a pretty good post recently thta can help you hook up the cyclone intake manifold correctly, when it comes time to do that. I'm too busy to run a search right now, sorry.

Edit: Here ya go. cyclone

i have been doing some research on the cyclone intake mainifold. in order to get benifit from the cyclone intake over the stock US intake you need to have a jdm ecu. what some people do is just conect the acuator on the intake to a vacume line or i have heard of some people setting it up with a switch to make it open at some thing like 5lb of boost. but it seems to me that rps are more important than boost presure for telling the intake when to switch to the short runners because the whole purpose of the two runners is one for low rpm and ome for high rpms. thats how i understand it anyways.
so i was thinking, why not just use a rpm triggered switch and set it to something like 4000rpms and not have it have anything to do with boost presure.
or maby if i missed the point and pressure does have something to do with it than use a rpm switch and a pressure switch togeather.

what do you think, is this a way to make them work better on US cars.

but wouldnt that defeats the purpose of getting a cyclone and you would just be better off using the stock intake. or would the two runners togeather flow better than stock, do you think

Look in the Tech Articles section, I posted on how to make it work.

You don't activate the butterflies by RPM only because you want them closed when there is no boost. So you are cruising at 3500rpm's, but not enough throttle for boost to be made. You want those valves closed to gain the benefit they offer. Hence the reason you have both boost and rpm to activate them.

The stock 1G manifold flow 203cfm. The Cyclone flows 201cfm. 2cfm is not enough to bi*** about unless you are an internet keyboard jockey.

sup fellas..
after a year and a half of my dsm "behaving" she finally decided to give me a whole bunch of shit in 2 weeks. low compression on all four cyls., and while it was still driveable.....the head gasket blew yesterday, and in taking off the head, i disovered detonation on the pistons, and the rings are shot :thumbdown anyways. im not even going to bother with a rebuild. im just going to replace the whole thing and start fresh. my old shop can get me a jdm cyclone motor for about 1200 with the oem big 16g and 510cc's. (the rare evo3) im not going to run the intake manifold, just gonna swap on the 1g mani i have laying around, and sell the cyclone. i know i know the cyclone is the same as a usdm..but im gettin a good deal considering im not going to go any bigger than a big 16 and 510's for a looong time. anyways my question is this......anyone know whats needed for this conversion. i heard a non jdm ecu doesnt work well with this, and there's alos something that needs to be done with the oil cooler....any help would be much appreciated

The cyclone really does it's job with the low end spool. It has 8 runners (yes 8), half of them are active during low boost and rpm (~8psi, 3000 and lower) and once you exceed them, a set of butterfly's open and let the other 4 breath. It's a very good manifold for 16G equipped cars because it cuts the spool down... I would hold onto it if I were you.

oh i dont want you guys to think that i dont understand the benefits of the dual runners, i just know that positioning of the intake manifold and a 2g's firewall tend to bump heads. my main concern on the swap is the ecu.....i'm sure some of you out there have done this swap and im pretty much lookin for advice on what to look out for. the dsm is my only car, and i'm really trying to eliminate all of the trial and error work out of the swap. thanks for any help..
