Hi, Maybe some of you have seen my build blog for the 1991 gsx my friend and I am building.

Here is a rundown of the build so far. Lots of stuff has been purchased but some stuff hasn't. Some of it is not important for this thread but the list is copied and pasted so bare with me. Nonetheless we need help selecting the appropriate cams for our set up. Also any input on the set-up itself would be nice.

Car has 8pt cage, gutted with about 2750 weight. Will be lighter soon. Keep up on the build blog!:hellyeah: Hoping for 30+psi and the car will be run on 110 octane cam2 race fuel. We are really hoping for lower 10's in this thing but we would be happy with anything in the 10 second range honestly to start out with.

My real question is what size cams should we go with in this thing? Also other than the tranny and rear do you see any weak points in this set-up? They aren't in the budget this year but will be taken care of next year. Hopefully DSMlink also. We are going to push the tranny and rear as far as we can until then. Do you think our goals are achievable? Any input or advice?

dont use a "chipped ecu" go straight to a dsmlink or an aem...I would deffently beef the trans up before you did anything. they are the weakleast link. Also for cams i would go with FFWD dks3's there 280 duration

i say go with the bc 272 and as for the setup i think its great for a ten seconds. as for the slicks you are using i dont how long that drivetrain is going to hold up but would definitly be slipping the clutch off the line

Ok a little update. Going with DSMlink now and also got a 4 bolt rear. Hoping the tranny can take one season beating before we go with a built one.

Good thing on the rear. I have broken two 3 bolt rears on just a 16g. Granted it is making over 400lb/tq but still they are weak.

That stock spider gear diff is not going to cut it. If you guys put some sticky tires on there and start launching it then its going to brake fast. My brothers 16g car destroyed his stock tranny just going WOT in 4th gear!! But with the stutter box at 4500rpms you wont even get a launch, more of a bog and a slow take off. Thats even too low for my 16g car to launch good.

On the cams I would go with something more aggressive than the BC 272's. I would look into Kelford 272's. They are very aggressive and dont loose as much down low as some other cams in there range. Also if you havnt bought the valve springs I would look into some beehive springs. They are a lot safer for high rpms and big cams. Thanks for the input! Much appreciated. So maybe we should hold off for an extra season and just have a tranny built.:thumb:

Id like to see a dyno slip on that 400lb/tq with a 16g that means your making over 500hp.
