Please help dropped bolt in head

I found some posts on this but on different passages. Question is i was taking off the stud for the hyundai valve cover and it fell down into this gallery right below the 10 hole (pictured)
I'm pretty sure it went to the oil pan since i heard a splash noise.
Am i cool to take oil pan off and be good?

well, you would be GOOD if you take the pan off and it is in there. but i also guess that if it is not, then you will not be GOOD

This sucks got the harmonic balancer and now this!.I would go buy one of those teloscopic little magnets and fish around for it.It probably went in one of those holes by the rocker arms?I did a clutch job one time and filled the tranny up with oil then relized I forgot to put on the speed sensor,as I was putting it on I dropped the 10mm bolt down the hole in the tranny!I thought I was screwed I went and bought one of those and that sucker came right out good luck.

Im in the process of taking the oil pan off right now. I just came inside to check on replies. I'm pretty sure its in there it made a thunk noise .

well, you asked, "Am i cool to take oil pan off and be good?". so what kind of question is that? i answered on what you asked.
my answer was if you take the pan off and find the stud, then, duh, obviously you will be good. but if you do not find it in the pan then, duh, you will not be good. point blank.
then maybe before you start a thread with a SIMPLE question, maybe you should of thought about it first. so instead you are asking everyone on here to think. and i did. it is self-explanatory. IF YOU DO NOT FIND THE STUD IN THE OIL PAN, THEN YOU HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS

If you can get a strong enough magnet try and get the bolt out by just taking the drain plug out, and moving the bolt with the magnet.

Someone should know if that gallery goes to the oil pan is what i'm stating. Your post was useless. I already knew if it was in the pan than im good, and if not i'm in trouble.

All of the oil pan bolts are off but the pan wont budge

get a slim flathead screw driver and put it on the seam of the oilpan and the blcok and hit the end of the screwdriver with a hammer and then pry down and do this all around the pan and it should come off with out damaging anything

i had to beat mine with a rubber hammer to get it off and i didnt even dent it.

Your supposed to use a seal cutter between the pan and block. Pounding a screwdriver in usually bends the pan which isn't really a good idea. I've seen guys take a putty knife and put an edge on it, a box cutter, or even a single edge razor blade in vice grips would do.

Until you find the bolt your project is on hold.

Yes the holes in the heads are drains to the pan but I'm not sure they all go straight down into it.

Alright guys, I got the stud out!! It was laying in the pan. Thank god .
Pan came loose after a couple taps with a rubber hammer.
Now it's time to put it back together.
One last question, should I throw some RTV on the pan, it still has the orange oem stuff on it.

well ive done that before, clean off the old stuff i used a gasket then seal it up.

You have to scrape off all the existing RTV from both the pan and block. Then clean the oil from both with brake cleaner before applying a 1/8" bead of Ultra Grey RTV around the pan and on the insides of any mounting holes, then install the pan.

All the real factory RTV I've seen was black or grey. The Permatex Ultra Grey is the aftermarket replacement for the factory RTV but people have used all sorts of other RTV with mixed results. The key is getting the old stuff and oil off the mating surfaces. Pan has to be flat too.

well, from my computer, there is no pic that you posted, so how do we know where you are talking about? or are we supposed to be mind readers...........?
never mind, this is pointless, cause obviously you have not a clue what you are doing, just by your most recent question regarding just putting the pan back on with the old rtv on it..
i guess that this is for the birds good luck with your project
