please help a new tuner

well i'm just getting into the tuning side of dsm's. first, what the hell is a eprom ecu? is it better, and is it stock on any dsm. where can i find one, and how much. secondly, i've heard of the dsmlink, and i know its a tuning device. thats all i know. is it a standalone, or a piggyback? also what are its capabilities? do you use a program on a laptop to control it or what. also where can you find one of these, and how much. i plan on putting a tubo on my car, so would this be a good investment for my engine managment? if you can give me the details of it that would be great. dont make fun of me too bad, i did say that i'm new at this.

Super fast reply which others will go more in depth. (I'm going to bed EPROM is Erasable Programable Read Only Memory. The Read Only Memory(ROM) holds you're timing maps and fuel maps and the like. I.E. computers see's this amount of air and load and looks up the on maps what fuel and timing to spit out. Erasable Programable means you are able to edit it in one way or another through different chips or something that edits on the fly like DSMLink. For 95-99 Eclipses, 95 turbo models had EPROM and I'm not sure about the non turbos.
DSMLink rewrites aspects of the ECU through a laptop based program "on the fly" It also has a logging function to tell you what the engine is doing as far as knock, timing, airflow, blah blah blah... lots of stuff. DSMLink isn't your typical piggy back because it changes the ECU values internally, but isn't a standalone because it does't eliminate the stock engine managment system.

I'm not up on non turbo EMS so I don't know what you need. Someone will though, good night
