Plastidipped my car.

Niiiiiice:hellyeah: And it's even well within your average dsmer's budget.:D

Hell yea. And it's idiot proof to be honest. If you apply too much in one spot, no biggie...it won't run or show up unevenly. There were a few spots I had to touch up and just sprayed in that area....after it dried, you couldn't even tell.

While it dries, it WILL scare you. It will look like it is different colors, uneven, etc. Wait for about an hour and it'll all go away. Wait 4 hours like the can says and then you can touch it and whatever with no problem.

Also, if you have a lot of dirt on your hands and you touch the car, it will leave marks behind. Just take some water and a soft cloth and wipe it off.

Since this does have a rubbery texture, the dirt and dust that collects on it WILL be more noticable. Who cares though, just wash it off.

Great results, thanks for this post OP. I wanted to paint my dd black, now I know what ill be using!

That does look really well and I think I know what I might be doing over the winter....

That looks pretty good... ideas ideas LOL

i went to lowes around martinsburg wv and found it in cans for 7.97 a can, white nozzle :-( , i bought one can to see how it does on the bumper ! its chilly so ill try and do it sunday or so! thanks again for the awesome tip !

This is the problem I ran into...the price per can locally. Ace Hardware Outlet online has them for like $5/can. Came out cheaper including shipping for my 10 cans.

Doesn't matter how cold it is outside. It doesn't say on the can to apply it during certain temperature and humidity conditions. I applied it outside with overcast. And this is WA, so it was humid, about to rain. At one point it actually did sprinkle when I was doing the bumper and fenders. It didn't affect it any though, which I am thankful for.

As far as I can tell it looks like it is sold as "Liquid Tape" also. Same manufacturer and packaging. Assuming that's right Harbor Freight sells it for $5.99.

Black Liquid Spray Tape

I've also seen it at Walmart where they have electrical tape.

romeen, the liquid tape isn't the same thing. The liquid tape is an electrical insulator...you can also buy it at walmart in a tiny jar that comes with a brush. Once the solvents evaporate, it leaves behind....electrical tape. How do I know? Because I have used it LOL...dont know that you would want to spray your car with that, but why don't you give it a try!

greekgodchaos, hey man go ahead and do your car the same...I don't mind. Can't say your idea is original though LOL

Thanks for clearing that up.:thumb:

Great work on the car.:)

Looks great man. It is the same look I am going for. Only thing I would want to do is clear coat but I don't know if it would stick or be compatible.

Im doing this to my vr4 aha, does it come in different colors? And if i use bondo on my car will the spray adhere to it?

There are a few "stealth members already, I think OP simply joined the club. Definitely looks good, we have used it before for bumpers but not whole cars LOL. Gotta say, props for being a little different but as always the worst part of flat cars is they show every single dent and ding. LOL.

Do you wash it like any normal paint job? I'd love to do this to my 1g

Yea wash it like you do any other car. I use a hand mitt that is microfiber for all of my cars...works great.

Acrylic enamel clear won't cause any problems with the plastidip. But I think it may defeat the purpose if you clear it.

@tsi1991awd, Im pretty sure you have established the Stealth Division of the DSM Army :hellyeah: haha I cant wait to do this to my car :D All credit goes to you my good sir :thumb:

Hahaha, awesome.

I used spot glaze on my Lancer to cover up the two big holes in the bumper and then sanded it smooth and sprayed right over it. Hasn't peeled or anything. This stuff will stick to anything. No primer needed.

Yea, any black car in general shows every imperfection. It still showed up on the door even with the car black cherry, so I'm not too worried about it. It's bound to happen some more I am sure since it is a 20 year old car.

it doesn't get any easier and cheaper. go to home depot get some cans, clean the surface, and spray, if you don't like it peal it off. sprayed the stock rims a month ago but i didn't have the balls to do the whole car

Well, my Intrepid Squad has been bomber black for about 10 years, so I've got a feeling my new Talon will be heading that way as well. Though I think I'll try the Plasti Dip approach this time over primer, (Primer fades WAY too fast.)
