So i jumped time and got compression of 0 70 110 135 going from cylinder 1 to 4.

I pulled the head and my valves are pretty beat up, and I have a nice head on the way. Besides getting the head, Do you guys think my pistons are ok? I just wanted to get a second opinion to make sure. The cylinder walls look great and the pistons are still very solid.

Besides new gaskets, do you think I should get new headstuds. I'm going to be doing the 2g head and 6bolt block. I heard if you use 6bolt studs you'll be fine. I might just go to maperformance and get the ARP headstuds/gasket combo.

But enough rambling , here are the pics.

The tops look okay to me. But you need to pull them out and check the skirts and ring lands aswell. What's that thing on the #1 piston? Is that a drop of water or a dent?

Yea don't bother taking the pistons out. Just file down the burs and reassemble with a fresh head and headgasket.

Awesome. Now i've been researching on the 2g head / 6bolt block hybrid.

Should I even bother? I' see how much the 2g has smaller ports, but I also heard so many of both stories' sides. I'm asking because I'm about to follow through with a 2g head freshly rebuilt so I'm not 100% sure.

If it were me, and I didn't have DSMlink or a chip burned, I would stick to the 2g head to keep the stock CAS and not deal with the inevitable P0300 code.

Just something else to think about besides the famous flow vs velocity argument.

I was running a 2g head on a 6 bolt until I seized the engine (which had nothing to do with the head on the engine). I had no problems with any CEL coming on and it ran well. I'd say check out karking.com and that's how it is set up. Good luck.

That's a nice site. now would I have to do some reverse modifications to my CAS and anything else to put the 2g head on? If so I might just keep with a 6-bolt head..

After all, my engine was a complete 6-bolt before I pulled the head.

Yeah you would have to re install a 2g Crank sensor on the oil pump front case, and re-install a 2g Cam sensor and wire them in. You might also have to make the 2g head holes 12mm instead of 11mm. Or get the ARP Tapered studs.

If you already have a 1g head I would just keep that.

I have a 2g head on a six bolt block in my galant. The only modification you have to do is to drill out the bolt holes with a 1/2" drill, so it will fit over the studs. The 2g head has holes tapped so a 1g cas will bolt right up. The 1g water housing also bolts up to it.

I think I'm just going to get a re manufactured 1g head from slowboy or CI motorsports and get all new gaskets, head studs etc.. when they rebuilt my motor the only thing that I didn't really approve upon was throwing in a "spare head" they had laying around. I'd rather finish up the rebuild with a fresh clean no-history head with everything perfect :).

There goes my 800 dollar budget for new wheels/tires oh well :hellyeah:

Get a 2g head.. even with 8.3:1 pistons my off boost response is incredible. Altho I cheated a little with the 2g head variation by rocking a EVO3

Yeah I'm gonna wheel them up. I just got my degreaser and fluids for the head drop in and all my supplies. Tomorrow I'm gonna be busy so friday night I'm gonna spice her up and make my bay look a little nice and definitely shine up my pistons :rocks:

my ONLY question is: where in this world do you get the special tension tool that you torque on to set the correct tension.

part number is MD998752 but I've searched for the past hour. Is this a dealer only piece?

they seem like 2g pistons, they are suppose to be dark gray color.

Yea, I meant... Do something like this...

Yea just use it lightly. It really doesn't take much.

That was all done with a wire wheel that looked like this one:
