Hey there, I recently puchased the Stage 1 Stroker kit for my 99 GSX. Now I am starting the build and just need a small confirmation on my installation of my rings and the orientation of the rods (they are Eagle H-beam rods) As for the rings i have them installed like this:

Special Oil control ring is clear on the bottom w/ the dimple over the wrist pin

Second is the oil rail ring 1 with the gap over the wrist pin,

Third is the oil expander ring w/ the butted ends together 90* from the wrist pin,

Fourth is the oil rail ring 2 which is 180* from the gap from the first one,

Last two I figured out :thumb:

The other thing I needed to know was I could not find any marks on the rods to identify which direction they faced.. is it important????

Thanx in advance
JustinLOL

The rods can go on eather way its the pistons exhaust valve relefs you need to make sure its on the right side. Also you didnt mention ring gap of the top 2 rings. The rings do not come pre gaped so have them checked before installing them on the pistons the 2 thin rings for the oil expander dont need to be gaped. Also dont mix up the rod caps. Its a good Idea to mark them on the sides wear they separate with a # punch so you dont mix them up and put them on backwards.

Are the exhaust reliefs the holes that are on the back??? I didn't read anything bout them in the instructions, if not what do they look like (exhaust reliefs)????

Thanx
Justin

not exhaust reliefs.

VALVE reliefs. Indentions in the dome of the pistons, for the valves. You may notice the intake valves on your head are a tad bigger than the exhausts', now whatever you do, make sure you put the pistons IN with the EXHAUST valve reliefs facing the front of the car.

Best of luck.

Hey guys thanx a lot for the help so far I've got the crank in and am getting ready to check the top two ring gaps..... My chilton manual sux and has a pretty broad range for the end gap clearences...( top says 0.25-.035 and bottom says .45-.55 what do you guys think is the best end gap clearence...

Also there is a indentation on the top of the pistons, a little dimple would that just face away from the flywheel???

Justin, the VALVE relefs are on the tops of the pistons to give the valves clearance from the pistons. You will notice the intake valve reliefs are larger than the exhaust because the intake valves are bigger.
If your going to file your rings yourself there is only 1 tool that will do it correctly. Its a tool with an dimond abrasive wheel and a crank handle. You can get them from summit or jegs or do a search on a search enging like yahoo under (piston ring filer). If its going to be a street engine file them from .017-.018 on the top and add .004 to the second ring gap from the first ring gap.

Well here is a picture of the beast assembled..... Clearences are good to go and time to start with the rest of the stuff.... As far as the buildup goes I am gonna keep the engine as clean looking as I can (will be using block offs and stuff as well as a NA water pipe) well here ya go and let me know what ya think~!!!!!!

Exhaust valves are smaller than the intake valves. Here is a pic, ex at the bottom, intake at the top, and dimple pointing towards driver side(timing belt side).

Anyway, the dimple in the top of the wiseco pistons should point to the front of the engine(timing belt side). The pic you show with them installed is correct. As far as the rods are concerned, eagle says they can go either way but I prefer to install them the same way as the factory installed stockers, bearing tangs on the exhaust side.

Spray the deck and the insides of the engine with WD/40 and cover it with a garbage bag

I hope your using a ring expander and not spiraling them on. Another thing to double check where your gap locations are suppose to be. Contact the Ring manufacturer on where exactly the gaps are suppose to be because it sounds like you might have one of your gaps on the skirt side which could be possibly the thrust side of the piston.

Good luck with that, it's hard work but well worth it. Here are some pics to give yourself something to work towards...

It's 10x better lookin in person trust me. Everything is painted with VHT silver caliper paint. I mean everyhting. Fuel rail, around the 1g cas, the head. Block is high temp glossy black. I painted the pan, motor mounts, tranny, transfer etc.. It looks pimp afer it's all done.

Hey guys thanx for the replies, as far as the ring gaps go I installed them with a expander and according to the directions that came with the piston kit... DSMJim that looks really sweet, infact my tranny looks exactly like yours, my block is semi gloss black and i will be getting a bronze colored valve cover

Ill post some pics of what I get done today

Well thought I would post some pics of the progress I got done over the last two days... I now am on hold until I can make another trip to satin...

The first pic is what I have done... I got the head back today freshly port matched for a 1g intake mani.. new valves and very, very clean...

The next pic is the overwhelming amount of stuff I have left to do as well as the work I need to do to put this beast back in.....

Anyone in arizona that knows how to put the front end back together I could sure use a hand since its been 3-4months since I have even looked at it

Thanx again

Nice job!! Yea you still have along ways to go, but once your done yull be like wow thats it?? I thought putting the trany back in was the hardest of the whole job. BTW did you pack the oil pump gears with vasoline?? Use havoline 10/30 for the first 1000 miles.

Oil pump has been packed but I found out yesterday that satan gave me the wrong head gasket, I asked for the metal head gasket but I guess he dosen't think I know what I am talking about also still need to get some other parts..

it's coming together slowly but surely :thumb:

Looking very nice man! How hard was it to assemble/install all of the timing components? I'm going to be doing a 2.4L build here in the next couple weeks or so. JW, what kind of rods are you using with the setup? Good luck!

Timing is a cinch, done it a couple of times, it's even easier with the engine out of the car :thumb: If you haven't done it before make sure everything is lined up (oil pump, crank, and cam gears) and if I am not mistaken when you are getting ready to put the belt on you will have to turn the exhaust side slightly past, put the belt on and let it come back.. do this until it comes back lined up... good luck on your build up...

The rods I have are eagle with arp bolts, pistons are wiseco and the crank is a remanufactured 4g64... People are saying that this build up is worth it I can't wait to find out~!!!!!!
