pistons and rods

I've been a daily reader on these boards for a bit and I look on peoples profiles, mods, etc. and I see new connecting rods and new pistons coming up a lot. From what I gather changing them strengthens your engine, but what exactly do they do? any hp or torque involved with them?

The 4g63 on the 1g's can handle around 450hp and the 2g's can handle about 400hp alot of times people will upgrade to new rods and pistons because they've blown thier engine or just need a rebuild in general so why not upgrade. As far as getting horsepower from pistons and rods alot of aftermarket pistons do have a better designed dome on them which will up your horsepower a bit because you get alot of power out of how well your combustion chamber is designed. As far as rods alot of aftermarket rods are made with much lighter material and will save you a couple grams in rotating mass weight. As far as brands Eagle are the rods I would go with because thier only $350 from most places and can handle what a street car would need if you want to go big you could go with crower rods but thier $600 but can handle 600hp. As far as pistons go I'd arais baby I know alot of people will say go JE this and that but I've seen JE fail in a lancer and in a 240 the 240 swapped to arias and some how sucked in one of the bolts on his trottle plate it went into the engine and some how got sucked back into the intake manifold and got lodeged we didnt even know about it until we pulled the head because he floated a valve and we saw a screw shaped indention on the head and the pistion had little tiny tiny tiny tinks in it but that was it nothing more so my vote goes to arias.
