i was searching the roums for info on evo pistons and rods and was wondering if evo 8 pistons and rods will work on my 91 6 bolt? i know the evo pistons have higher compression but will this be an easy build or to much work and not enough gain?

i know they are the same bore 85.0mm and im sure that they would increase horsepower becaue anything with higher compression is of course gonna produce more power but idk if its going to be worth doing all the work unless you are in need of a rebuild and have an extra evo 8 motor lieing around and dont have much money for a rebuild.

Well from what I hear from a good shop with dsm's around here its not worth it. Just build it they say. I don't agree but thats a shop everyone seems to trust.

thats why i said unless you have a evo 8 motor lying around and are on a budgit but if you are going to purchase them new there would be no point becasue your gonna be spending close to the same amount of money to a nice set of forged pistons that you would get so much better results out of

im leaving the head stock so what rod and piston set up should i go for?

What are your plans for the engine? a lot of people have gone pretty far with 1g big rods & 2g pistons but if you plan on making big HP you might want to go with a forged aftermarket setup.

Yeah the 1G 6 bolt big rods, and the 2g piston is a good. Is a fairly cheap upgrade for the 6 bolt 4g63. Don't know about the spec's about the Evolution's 4g63 piston and what kind of work is need to put on the stock 6 bolt big rods.

With that said and in mind why don't you just go after market and upgrade you engine with something like Eagle rods and Wiseco Pistons???

You can't use Evo rods on a 6 bolt crank. You can use Evo pistons on 1g rods with some modifications to the rod. It would be the same modifications, if you were to use 7 bolt pistons on 6 bolt rods.

now the question is if i wanted to upgrade my rods to scat rods will they work with evo pistons?

Sounds like if you went with scat rods made for a 1g it would be the same situation as using your 6 bolt rods. You would have to get you rods machined to fit 2g/evo pistons.
