So here's the story. I traded an old turbo for a 91 laser with bent valves. Found a used motor online for $300. Looked bone stock. Got the car and the engine home, started to tear into this engine and saw it has 63DTR pistons. They look stock, but I can't find any information on them and the guy who I bought the engine from didn't know anything. He said the engine was in his talon thats about all he knows.
The engine has a red Mitsubishi valve cover, but stock talon intake manifold.
Really curious about what engine I got.

The pistons I pulled from my 1g Talon had those markings on the top "63DT". I was told they probably weren't the stock pistons by another member on here.

Pretty certain the intake manifold looks the same regardless of the car's model. They all have the "ECI Multi" on top.
And the valve cover doesn't really indicate much, because anyone could have swapped it in the last 25 years. They're prone to cracking.

The real indicator of what type of motor you have is the flywheel bolt pattern. Either 6 bolt or 7 bolt.

Edit: this is my thread where I asked about those pistons https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/advice-on-factory-6-bolt-pistons.524964/

Judging from the info in the thread posted above, the motor you bought for $300 is stock and was maybe rebuilt once in the past. If it was rebuilt with stock parts, then the turbo and injectors would be stock also. Stock injectors for a manual transmission 1g were 450cc and colored blue, and the stock turbo was a relatively small 14b.

Can you measure the bore of the cylinders to see if it's been bored out?

I don't have anything to measure the bore with, but it looks very stock and doesn't appear to have been machined. The head has not been machined, I'm sending it out to get decked.

JDM pistons. Those are the revised version of 63DT turbo pistons.
Now I'm wondering what kind of car this came out of and if I have better valve springs than a stock talon. Although I have a regular 14b and blue injectors.

Most likely from the late Galant VR4 with a 16g and 510cc injectors. If so, the valve springs are the same as DSM.

Although I have a regular 14b and blue injectors.
It's probably because the car has a DSM ECU.

if it had bent valves, take a good look at the valve guides if you haven't already. they tend to crack
