pretty sure i make over 400 hp LOL. not by a lot.. maybe 420 i'd bet. it made 380 on 22 psi. with a smaller IC and a 2.5" exhaust. broke up on the top end because of the IC and exhaust. now its on 26 psi with the hahn i stated above and 3" mandrel bent with no restrictions.
 
Thank god. I was waiting for a few people who knew what they were talking about to help me. Im planning on runnning pump gas ( 93 octane) and itll be my dd. Probably going to keep it at 8 psi till i learn megasquirt then ill crank it up. Im shooting for 300hp with mega and around 225 without so pumo gas should be fine. So if i go low compression im going to want a setup that spools at a low rpm?

Op's power goals aren't as high as yours.

Just curious, do you have a dyno chart? I would love to see it.

man you sure did ruin my day! the previos owner is the one who did the 22 psi dyno, but i have his dyno results. it was't 380.. is was ~300. i guess i mixed up an 8 and a 2:banghead::ohdamn:

so maybe 350 hp then... idk guessing at hp numbers is kind of pointless. but here's the dyno chart i have from him:

Looks like the intercooler i have recommended, and have on my car, would work at the power goals the op has in mind. According to your dyno sheet, you hit a max of 300 hp, or so it appears. My intercooler is rated at 350 hp, so the extra ~525 bucks could be spent somewhere more useful, like megasquirt

Wow, is it usual for the power band to only last that long? It looks like it dies off at like 5k....

Ebay brand, i bought one of those universal intercooler kits. honestly, if i were you i would go this route and if needed, upgrade later.
 
that dyno sheet was at 22 psi. it had a small ebay intercooler, and 2.5" exhaust.

so it was heat soaked and having troubles breathing = only 300 hp.

Yes, heat soak will be the problem the op will run into if he pushes 300whp mark, so he might want something a bit bigger but i think the intercooler you have now may be a bit overkill for his application.
 
Good god that hahn one is gynormous! Ill probably get an ebay one, one of the huge like 31x9x3 and if it kills off boost ill just shove something inside to take up space or something LOL.
 
31x9x3 is going to be too big.

try 20x9x3 or close to that.
that hahn is 24x9x3.5 (core not endtanks) and you already thought that was big.
 
Shoving something inside your intercooler just sounds like a horrible idea. i'm pretty sure on 20+ psi you wont have much to worry about on an intercooler that size

i think the op is talking about 31x9x3 is the core and end tanks

Yea thats full size, what if it was 31x9x2, that would cut the volume by 1/3, wouldnt that make it the same as a 20x9x3?

20x9x3 = 540 in3
31x9x2 = 558 in3

Unless I did the math wrong (which is completely possible LOL) the 31x9x2 is only a little bigger. Also with the 31x9x2 you would have a larger front face for air to hit the intercooler and cool down the air a bit more.

OP, did you ever decide what comp ratio pistons to go with? I'm almost to the stage where i need to decide which to buy, and our power goals are pretty close..
 
I think your going about your decision making process all wrong. You should be building your motor and picking a turbo that fits your build. Don't buy a turbo and decide you want to build around that. Start from the base and work your way up.
 
Well later that week i took my car out for a quick 10 minute spin around town for fun and someone pulled out in front of me and totaled my car. I was going to buy the 8.6 long rod kit that night. However, unfortunatly i have no input to help you with.
