Pics of my crank!

Nahh thats just skanky oil I bet The bearing would probably have to be waaaay more beat up than that for the rod to be completely junk.

I suggested reusing the rod as it save tons of work..if you replace it you'd have to have it all ballanced, which would entail pressing all the pistons off the rods, which usually damages them. .

Most automotive shops would reuse that rod unless it was waaaay out of round.

I will get the crank out tonight and ill post some more pics, and some of the contents of the oil pan! If there is any pics you guys want me to take just let me know!

thanks!

Close ups of both broken ends would be interesting.
If the rods are ok, and the harmonic dampener was in place then it is likely that the crank had a manufacturing defect.

I seriously doubt it, but it's his engine whatever he wants to do. Personally I wouldn't risk it.

The reason I said to not reuse the rod isn't because of it being beat-up and out-of-round, but because with visible heat damage the heat temper of the metal is now gone. The rod will be softer than it should be and I'd be willing to bet that if it is measured carefully it'll show that it has already begun to bend. Either way the rod has to come out for inspection anyhow, so reusing it will not save that much work. And then when it fails it won't even save money.
