I just thought I would show everyone what I got today! Its for my 91 TSI AWD, so hopefully it will be running before too much longer! Let me know what you think! Its a 100mm crank, eagle h beams, and a .020 overbore 9.1 compression wiseco pistons. 2.3L baby! It came with King bearings are they any good, I haven't heard of them.

Very nice boxes, one of these days i'll post up my parts but as i still have 6month left in the desert and probably 7-8months before i even start my build i figured i'd hold off haha.


very very nice. i'm still trying to decide if i should go with an eagle crank or just a 4g64 crank out of a used motor. . .

i too have not heard of kings bearings. . . i went with ACL race series rod/main bearings.
 
The guy said they were made by clevite so I don't know. Just have to do some research on them. I figured since this is not going to be a dd I want to make some good numbers so I am only trying to do things once. I don't want to have to go in and try and repair the damage a broken crank can cause. In the non turbo I used ACL rod bearings and clevite mains. No problems so far.
 
I'm in the process of getting ready to build my bottom end. I have all the parts for the head and some for the block. :sneaky:

It's just a stock DSM with a bad bad idle,ok... ok... and a rumble :cool:

yeah i had ordered the ACL race series rod and mains before and then was told they were on horrible backorder. well thats not the case now. anyways so after finding out about the backorder i switch to the clevite main/rod bearings. to find out that the rod bearings are now made out of some type of aluminum. so i called back SBR and they sent me the ACL rod/mains i got them at the house now:sneaky: so yeah def. look into those bearings. and if the clevite rods are indeed aluminum i'd pass on them but thats just My opinion. :nono:

Why don't you just use factory MITSU berings? Or better yet contact EAGLE since there the ones that made the crank and ask them what bering they recomend for your application. They sometimes specify certain berings for specfic applications and will void your warrenty if you used the inferior parts. Since this is not a factory crank I would be extra carful with clearance's and set and would take the whole assembly to a qualified machine shop to have them clearance and assemble the lower end. Just slapping parts together is no garuntee that everything was machined properly from the manufactor. I have seen brand new rods that were egg shaped and journals that were tapered on brand new cranks.
 
I also have an eagle 100mm crank. Whatever bearings you use, they must be chamfered when using that crankshaft. The clevite bearings that came with my crank were already chamfered.
 
I do plan on plastigauging everything when I get it back from the machine shop. I am by NO means just slapping this together. I will call eagle and talk to them but last time I called them they sounded like they didn't want to talk to me. I just asked them about the torque spec on an older rod for the 420a when building it. O well, maybe it was just a bad day. In the future for the head will be some FP 3x :)
 
I am not worried about wiping protective covering off of them because there will be plenty of assmbly lube on them!
 
So is your wallet...Thanks again:thumb: Just kidding, I am ready to tear the old down and put in the new. The guys said this set up is good for 800 whp but I don't know if the rods can handle that much.
 
When you guys are talking about Chamfered bearings are you talking like in this picture or what. I don't follow what that means. There are 4 with the tops of the sides of the bearings like that and then there are 4 with an oil galley going down the middle of the entire bearing. Is that what you guys are talking about?

chamfer is when they cut the sides of the bearing. It will look narrower. The reason you have to do this with the eagle cranks is so the edge of the bearing does not rub the crankshaft. The machine shop I took my engine to explained this to me.
 
Many aftermarket crankshafts machine a large radius (larger than stock) in the fillet where the rod and main bearing surfaces merge into the crankshaft arms/counterweights. This is done to improve the strength. Sometimes this requires the use of chamfered bearings, it depends on whether the outside edges on the bearing will make contact with the crank radius. Each rod and the crankshaft has a given amount of endplay, so thake that into account when determining the amount of chamfer.
 
be careful with plastigauge and ACL bearrings, i heard there is a protective coating on them that wipes off real easy when plastigauging them.

You heard wrong, Any protective coating that wipes off easily when plasigauging is not going to be protecting anything. I actually Have experience in this field so I CAN give you correct information unlike yourself.. I plastigauged all of my ACL race bearings which were coated by Calico Coatings and I sprayed brake parts cleaner onto a Microfiber towel and the plastigauge melts off with 1 or 2 wipes leaving the Dry film lubricant in perfect shape... These went onto my 2.4L G4CS with a stock crank. Its on the engine stand right now about to be put into my car:thumb:
