Well I finally picked up a block today. It came with the 7 bolt crank which is in good condition. The guy even gave me the honing brush for free to do the cyclinder walls. Problem is I need to use my pistons and rods and bolts from my other block. What can I use to just shine them back up CLEAN but keeping standard size. Also one of the oil squirters is broken off in the block. Cant I just pull one of mine and use on the new block? Its just the neck of it. Im going standard new rings and bearings.

Also after the hone, can I pressure wash the entire block and then heat gun dry the whole thing without it rusting? I have never put pistons or rods in before, but Im hoping to have a full block within a days work, with the head and everything else bolted down.

Thanks guys for all your help

also what can I use to just clean up the old HG off the block? its not bad, but I dont want to leave it

correct me if im wrong but i do believe those squirters are bolted on so yes i do believe you can remove them. now as for your pistons and rods i would have a machine shop look at them to see if everything checks out cause you dont want to do all that work to later on have to re-do it again and make sure you torque the rod bolts to 14lbs + 1/2 turn and i use a basic gasket scaper to remove any old gasket good luck and please if im wrong correct me im just sharing what i did on my motor

The oil squirter is an easy fix. Just like above ^^ states. Don't go crazy with the flexhone. The block can be washed and dried but you must use some oil on it . A spray like Lucas" tool box buddy " makes easy conditioning. A clean bore will oxidize/ rust while you go in for dinner. You can wash the rod assenblies in cleaning solvent. I also use purple cleaner with water alot -with dry compressed air for drying. Brakeclean in a spray will prep all the mating surfaces. Tres....

I agree...dont just assume your cylinders r in good shape...just go to a local carquest nd they will check for ne taper...they didnt charge me a thing....as for the head gasket ive heard of ppl using a block sander with a fine grit to take of any material thats stubborn...will u be resurfacing the head?

Ok just got in from working and swapping parts ect. My motor mount don't fit on the new block and also the water line don't work with new block either. SO, now we are thinking its a 7 bolt motor off a 1g. After ripping out my block tonight, my buddy called his brother and asked more about my block with CW. We can I guess reuse MY old block, as long as the crank didn't ware out the thrust bearings down to much. I don't know much about this, but was told by several people to get a new block and start over. If my old crank is still good and everything, can't I just buy new ACL bearings, and all new ARP bolts for rods/main/head, and call it the day? I had great compression and it ran like a rape ape.

Going to pull mains later to see just how bad the thurst bearings are really.

What are the chances of me being able to use my oil pump again? Im just trying to salvage what I can without going pocket deep.
