As I'm still relatively new to dsm, I'm having so trouble knowing what parts to get to start upgrading the performance of my car. My goal is to eventually get around 550 hp out of the motor and I'm not even sure where to start. All the maintenance has been done to it and it runs great. Any suggestions on what parts to buy and where to buy them would be greatly appreciated.

Best place would be to check the upgrade path out first and see what parts you will be needing in general and pricing. Then you can make a plan based on that and the budget you have.

Also depends on new or used parts are bought but 550 reliable would need an engine rebuild and other supporting parts so roughly expect a budget of 7-11k. It could be less if you get the right deals on parts but it does all add up fast inc the turbo and ecu package

You will also be able to go to the vendor and freekancer section and these will be the chaos that fully support our platforms as much as possible

I saw your other posts. I would like to know how it blew a head gasket with 3 extra pounds. You're sure that car is stock?
Maintenance first, mods second.
You should also choose a path for the build.

The upgrade path and the post from @pauleyman are gold for you at this stage of the game. Something else to consider is not just you power goals and the pieces you'll need, but also how you intend on driving the car. Track only? Drag or autocross? Daily driver? Some racing? That answer will send you on a particular build path because it will determine where you want your power band, how you want the turbo to perform, what street legal restrictions there may be, etc. Different turbos spool at different rates and have different performance profiles. How you build the engine (how the head gets ported, what internals you use, etc.) will be affected likewise.

When you go to build the car/engine keep a couple of things in mind:

- overbuild the engine by 20% or so. If you want to reliably make 550hp, build the engine to (use components that can withstand) 650hp.

- the power has to get from the crankshaft to the tires, so make sure the components in between can reliably handle the power.

- parts are getting rarer and rarer, so research where your potential Achilles heels are and consider either squirreling away breakables (e.g. tranny parts) or scaling back your expectations.

Not trying to wave you off of your plans and goals... just want you to be wildly successful beyond your first few weeks after the car is on the street.

I honestly have no idea I believe the previous owner was the one that fouled the head gasket. I just think that little extra push is what made it blow, but either way it was definitely bad.

The first thing you will need to make 550 HP is a daily driver

The second thing you will need is a covered parking spot for your dsm project car

The third thing you will need is about 10grand for the parts and budget expense.

I honestly dont reccomend shooting for power numbers on a car. Youre going to end up with a garage queen with an unusable power band that just roasts the tires unless you get on it from a 60 roll.

Just me personally, I'd rather have 350whp from an awd car than 500 in front wheel drive. So I would recommend thinking about your commitment level from the platform.
