Hey everyone , Just figured i would introduce myself to the forums. My names Tony or Zilla. I recently traded a friend for his 1997 Eclipse Rs or GS. I don't know what the model is.. Currently the car is not running. I figured while the car isn't running and i have some cash laying around to play with. I started to price out some Cylinder Head parts and came across a Few Site who sell decently priced Head parts for the 420A motor. Extreme PSI had a set of BC Street/Strip Cams for 400$ and BC Springs and retainers for 210$. Real Street Performance i found had nice sets of BC OEM size valves from what i understood.( Not much information on that site) I have been a bit puzzled on who has what for prices and what would fit on the Head. I know " USE THE SEARCH BAR" But i am new to the site and am still trying to understand the format of the site. Any Information on Who has everything PRICED GOOD on one website would be awesome!

Thanks,

Tony

@ Pitbull419: By chance do you what sites Off the list of 50+ Cater Tword the 420A? And i appreciate the list of vendors TYVM!!

@99EclipseGSXDSM: I have not tried looking for parts from the Neon. I did not know that the 420A came in those cars. I am still new to the "DSM" Foundation and hope to learn alot and turn this car around from what the kid had it before me.

only putting cam shafts in wont get you alot of power for the money your gonna put out. you should read up on the 420a before buying parts. i actually just put together my build journal if you want to check out my set up and the parts i went with to get an idea.

go to howellautomotive.com, rpmmachine.com or horsepowerfreaks.com just make sure your looking at 420a parts.

Before you go spending the cash you have laying around, go check out the 420A fourms and read some and figure what path to follow.

Has anyone every purchase from thedsmgaveyard? I see they have a choice for custom heads and wondered if anyone has has work from them and how it worked.

I have attempted to buy from dsm grave yard.I ordered a part online and it never shipped. I sent six emails and made eight phone calls with no answer.I finally did a charge back on my card.
Here it is six months later , I have my money back , and I see my order is still in process,LOL.

Read the reviews.

As for the thread topic, your not going to get much power out of any naturally aspirated 4 cylinder, including the 420a. Cams, pistons, flux capacitors... it will all be in vain. There's nothing wrong with upgrading the stuff while your in there, but just be aware of the limitations at hand.

My honest advice- Rip the engine out and build it for boost. Then, rather than built heads and whatnot, spend the time and money on a decent turbo setup.

Like others have said, it'll be hard to get noticeable power gains from an N/A motor. A healthy running motor can be the best way to get power, than throwing performance parts at it.

Wow guys! Thanks for all the advice I read up on those reviews and am extremely disappointed that a company with such nice prices does horrible work an treats customs like shit! I guess I'm just going to get the car into the running shape and trade it plus cash for a GSX or TSI

If you are thinking about upgrading to a bigger camshaft...think again. With a bigger camshaft and no other supporting mods, all you are doing is making it sound different. the cam needs other supporting mods like: pistons, rods, crank...to attain better performance and a higher compression ratio

Best decision you'll make. I hope you mean cash and YOUR car for a GSX or TSi, not the other way around ROFL

you should read a thread all the way through since you just repeated the same thing everyone else said.

@rreign0311 yeah I plan on giving cash with mine there is a guy who has a 95 TSI built but according to him, something got bought in the belt as it jumped timing and crushed the valves.. So I figure I get mine running and trade him mine and 1,000$ cash for his non running then fix it and keep it.

Best thing you can do is get a turbo car. It was different back in the day when the prices were so much different, but now you can get a decent turbo car for not much more than a GS/RS. It will take at least 2x the money to make the 420a car half as fast.

Good to have a new DSMer in Syracuse
