im in the market for new piston and maybe rods but i'm looking for something thats going to be as reliable or more reliable than stock for a DD.. im leaning more towards wiseco piston but dont know anything about other brands..

just like alot of our cars out there have 100+ thousand miles on the stock motor i want to rebuild mine and get at least half of that, but with aftermarket parts..

im aiming for a 350-400hp DD that im not going to have to rebuild again next year

Edit: oh and dont ask why but i just dont want to use oem pistons and rods.. i want to try something different.. hints me asking for opinions on aftermarket parts

For your goals, any forged piston/rod combo will be more than enough. I'd recommend keeping your stock CR (8.5:1) though.

yes i know, and im sure i could of reached my goal with the stock engine, but one of my rings got hung up and scrached up the inside of the cyleder wall.. and it has to be bored to .30 over or more..

but like i said.. for some reason i want to put the extra money into it for aftermarket parts.. but i would like other peoples opinions who have used these parts to know how long they will lasted..

For a daily driver 4032 alloy pistons such as the Wiseco's are a good choice. Pistons forged from the 2618 alloy would handle more power but have more piston slap on start up. See page 37 of http://www.kidzuku.com/StrokeOrNot.pdf for more details about the alloys.

For a little lower HP goals you would be safe with 8.8:1 compression ratio. For your 400 WHP goal ninesixtwo has a good point about staying with the 8.5:1 compression ratio.

I chose Eagle H beam rods for my daily driver with similar goals. They will handle your HP goals and are relatively light weight.

As you may have heard before, your mileage may vary.

The Wiseco pistons and Eagle rods are better than the OEM parts and if treated the same, will last as long or longer. Here is the big BUT. The stock 4G63 made 210HP at the shaft and your goal of 400 at the wheels is well over double the stock shaft HP.

My 4G63T went 183,000 miles on the stock internals and showed no signs of wear on the main or rod bearings. I expect my stroker rebuild to last another 100K but that is without beating on it and keeping the Mobile One fresh. Or I could just do a neutral drop at 7000RPM and get it over with today.

Please see some of these recent threads on the topic of reliability:

alright thats what i wanted to hear, but now it would make me feel better if some one on here has been running the same thing i want to with high miles...

and i dont plan on running this car hard i just want to reach the 400hp mark so i know its there if i ever need it will im on the road..

One thing you may not pick up from the other threads is the wear on balance shaft bearings. Many of the members here have removed the balance shafts. That's ok.

I mentioned that my Talon was not showing wear on the main or rod bearings, but there's more. The balance shaft bearings were showing heavy wear.

If you don't remove your balance shafts then replace their bearings along with main bearings.

Oh and about just wanting the 400 HP only in case you need it.... Uh Huh, riightttt.

yeah i already did the balance shaft elimination on my last rebuild.. but the machine shop that i went to honed one cylinder a little to much and i never even thought to go back over and check him work with a micro meter.. but he also pressed the pin in 1 of my pistons wrong and it got siezed up..

and i wasent to happy with the 2g oem pistons from slowboy, which turned out to be NRP or something like that, not mitsu pistons like they say..

oh and i can be a very responseable driver most of the time.. i just like to be able to put other people in there place when they call my car a rice rocket or cheap 4 banger....
