Hey y'all. Ran into some tax refund money and might be pulling a turbo kit off of the market soon. However I was looking through some magazines at performance CV shafts. Just wondering if I would need to upgrade mine for the extra HP. And does the GS-T have stronger shafts as the GS? Maybe I could pull some out of an old one. thanks

First of all, you cant use the axles from the GST.

You can look into Driveshaftshop.com or MachV.com.

MachV sells some Fidanza ones that are 20-30% stronger if my memory serves me correctly.

The Driveshaftshop offers them in various stages, and varying prices accordingly.

didnt hahn use the stock driveshafts up to 450hp or something like that? if your read there article about their eclipse i think they specifically mention how they are pretty strong, you probably wont need new ones

I can't say that I have heard of anyone bustin' a shaft with street power, I don't believe that is a problem. But if there were lighter, race quality axles available, I would look into that. These cars are very weight sensitve and you would be better off lightening the load than strengthening stock axles.

i don't think it will be necesarry.my friend has a 98 spyder with 380 whp on stock axles and they handle the power fine.haven't snapped yet.spend the money on a limited slip if you wanna enhance traction.

wow i dunnno where to start on this post... first off is it s spyder GS-T? if it is, then the axles are not the same, so you cant compare them. second, if its an NT spyder, how the hell did he make that power? and that means he has a 4g64, which has different axles so you cant compare them.

Hahn does say that the stock TRANSAXLE ( read: transmission ) was stock and held up to 450whp. Our tranny's are not a weak link. I am SURE that there is NO way the stock axles can cope with that amount of power, especially when using either drag radials or slicks.

For any doubters, make that amount of hp and take your car to the track with the stock axles. ( PLEASE also bring your AAA membership card cause you will need it. ) Even using their dual stage boost controller, there is no way that the axles will not snap eventually with that amount of hp.

Hey thanks for the info.(From everyone) I don't see myself pushing that much HP...still gotta save a little more for the turbo kit!! But I think I will research a little about lightweight shafts, sounds like a decent investment if the price is right.

First make the power, then worry about snapping axles.. I have driveshaft shop stage 3's and I love them, but you can't use the shafts from the other car. Upgraded axles are NOT cheap, but if your making enough power they become necessary, until then your just burnuing $$$$...

Besides stock axles are dirt cheap. Kirby is right, wait for the power then upgrade but if it isn't broken then don't fix it.
