As Im sure we are all wondering which path to follow in our car customization (performance, appearance, etc.) I thought it might be useful to set up a sort of percentage for each particular area for money use, to make our cars as best we can all-around.

This pertains mostly to street use, non-specific type projects.

I personally would suggest:

Performance (Turbo, FMIC, etc.): 40%
Exterior Cosmetic (Body Kits, Rims, etc.): 20%
Interior Cosmetic (Seats, Shift Knob, etc.): 20%
I.C.E. (Upgraded Speakers, A/V Features, etc.): 20%

Your opinoins?

Exterior Cosmetic (Body Kits, Rims, etc.) should be no more than 0% in any case.

Performance should be around 70% and the other 30% should be divided between Handling/Suspension and Logging/Tuning.

I'd have to say for my daily driver...

Performance 50%
Exterior 15% (stock looks w/ wheels and nice paint)
Interior 15%
I.C.E 20% (I'm a sucker for good quality sound)

For the car I hope to get for the track...

Performance 99.9%
Exterior .05%
Interior .05%
I.C.E 0%

Performance 99.9%
Exterior .05%
Interior .05%
I.C.E 0%

I would agree with this more than anything else.
I could care less about a sound system, custom interior, or body kits if the car isnt mechanically sound. I would rather have a clean stock interior and exterior with a slightly modified engine than a wanna be rice boy car that doesnt run half of the time.

Yea, I am all about a great running and clean looking car... A CD player is enough ICE for me and... No bodykits/wings/dubs for me... :thumb:

100% performance.
Wider rims don't have to look bad, while they allow you to mount more rubber. Seats shouldn't be bought for the ricer reason... to look like your car's fast. They should be neccessary as your car's putting down that much power and can turn that sharp that the stockers just won't hold you any more. A carputer can both run some music, and keep track of datalogs, allowing you to tune on the fly and providing navigation.

Those who throw money at a car to make it LOOK fast instead of actually having an actual go-faster reason are my personal definition of ricers.
Why the hell toss on a floppy bodykit and park-bench wing when that $2K-plus could buy you an FMIC setup and upgraded brakes? The cost of those sun visor and headrest monitors could do up the fuel management. Much better to let them appreciate how sexy your taillights look, than toss on unneccessary crap that will more likely than not just serve to make the car heavier and slower.

All I care about in the cosmetics area is a good set of rims, good paint, and a clean interior. :p Maybe a decent head-unit too. Pretty much everything else is goin towards performance in my book.

Performance 75% (Go fast goodies, handling, & tuning)
Exterior 10% (Wheels, which should probably be classified under performance. Clean Paint. Stock body panels.)
Interior 10% (Clean. Clean Installs on Gauges, etc.)
I.C.E 5% (Sound is always nice, but you can't hear the stereo over that exhaust and external gate anyways;) )

He's referring to the percentage of money you'd put into each area of car modification, not the percentage of effort put into something.

For 1g's, there is not much exterior wise we can do, the 3 body kit types that are made detract from the cars appearance in my opinion.
Anyway, here is mine
Powertrain performance(Engine/drivetrain/fuel)-50%
Handling performance(Wheels/tires/suspension/brakes)-35%
Interior-5%
Exterior(just paint for me)-15%

But hey, doesn't that equal 105%..........yes it certainly does
Then again, 30 to 40% of our money winds up going to maintain the car anyway.

Performance(Engine, Suspension, Fuel, Tuning)--75%
Exterior(Just paint, rims go with performance in my opinion)--10%
Interior(Just racing seats and harnesses)--5%
I.C.E.(Nice deck and type-r speakers front and back, no amps no subs)--10%

Couldn't everything be performance mod? Besides "I.C.E." I enjoy a car that is in good shape and looks nice. I enjoy a car that can perform in all areas. I'm not a big I.C.E. fan so that is not part of the area.

A nicely rounded daily driver should be:

60% Performance
20% Exterior
20% Interior
0% Audio

The hiss of a blowoff valve and the howl of a motor running at 8,000 RPMs are all the music I'll ever need. Plus, systems get stolen every 30 secs...no one stills turbos and injectors around here...

That's hilarious.

Everybody has different goals for their cars, so there are no right and wrong answers. Some people are at the track every weekend, so they put more into performance.

While others are at car shows, so the put more into Interior, Exterior, and I.C.E

And others just want a nice, quick, good looking car, so they'll proportion their money evenly.

You need a system. I remember my road trip to almost Utah in a 996 C4S with the sport exhaust option. I would have died if the owner didn't have the CD changer stocked with all of Avril Lavignes CD's. Exhaust noise gets old after a while, Avril Lavigne doesn't... NOT! ;) He's just a skater boi, I said to you later boi; hey hey you you I know that you like me!

UberGSX is absoloutely right. Different Personality. DIfferent car preference. However lets keep it friendly here. Not investing all money in performance modifications does not necessarily mean you have a ricer. Exterior and Interior modifications can be very well done and done tastefully to achieve a great overall look that is still clean, its just because the driver wants something visual to set his car apart from the others on the road (and to get some ladies;) ) I.C.E. is also something that is just more important to some people that others because they enjoy their music and the attention that a quality system brings but I think we can all agree that the stock stereo just does not cut it. All of us here can appreciate and love a fast car but theres more to car than just that. Only my opinoin.
