I have a '98 2G Eclipse GST and had the error codes read at advance auto parts. I had a bunch of codes about oxygen and exhaust sensors but the exhaust is broken and the cat needs changing so that is no surprise ...

However the one code that did stand out was a PCV valve error code. So with this information I went home, located the PCV valve (it's on the passenger's side of the valve cover, right ...?) and removed it to check if it was blocked or malfunctioning. From what I can tell the plunger is still working and moving freely about and you can hear it rattle if you shake the PCV valve. Anyone have any suggestions ...? :idontknow:

The code number is more important then the description so we can try to help out. I have a feeling the code description is being confused with the EGR system since that is being monitored through the MDP sensor, or it's an evap code like P0442 and the description was miscommunicated/misunderstood.

There is nothing that monitors PCV in these cars. Subarus - yes, DSMs, no.

Sorry for the incredibly late reply .... :( I had a whole host of problems with the cooling system and had to replace the thermostat, the radiator hoses, pressure test the system and many other things just so I could drive it back to AAP to get the code read. But I did it!!

The codes that the reader picked-up through the OBD-II port were:
-P0141: Heated Oxygen Sensor Heater circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2
-P0443: EVAP System Purge Control Valve circuit
-P0446: EVAP System Vent Control
-P0136: Heated Oxygen Sensor circuit Bank 1 Sensor

I'm pretty sure 136 & 141 are both for the rear o2 sensor which all it does is monitor catalytic converter efficiency. The other 2 are EVAP BS which you don't need. The car will run and function fine with these codes on however you should still check around the EVAP vacuum lines, make sure there are no leaks.

Most people remove EVAP all together by blocking it and tuning out the codes. You're in MI, you don't need to worry about emissions or check engine lights.

I know, is't Michigan great :sneaky: but from what I've read on other threads it's sometimes linked to the EVAP solenoid crapping-out. I've also got a catch can in the mail which I plan to install the second it gets here. Would that mean I can just pull the solenoid and any of the hoses that it connects to and then just have a catch can run between the PCV valve and the intake manifold with no need for anything else?
