The large bolt the holds the lower control arm to the subframe is rusted in the carrier. Ive tried heating it up, wd-40, beating the sh*t out of it with a pipe wrench and a bolt, welding a nut to the stub thats sticking out..nothing seems to get this thing to budge..

so basically im asking is there a magic trick to get the damn thing out before I cut the whole thing out and weld in a new bolt carrier from the junkyard.

I had to cut one of mine and then get a replacement from Fastenal. Just part of DSM ownership.

You could try drilling it out, but it won't be fun.

If several other bolts are in the same condition as that one you had to cut, you might want to consider replacing the entire k-member with one that came off a car below the rust belt. It would probably save headaches further down the road.

I attempted to drill it out...I couldn't even get the damn bit started in that metal.

Actually its in pretty good shape, infact the only other rusted bolts were the fender bolts and some bumper bolts. Even one of the front axles wasn't seized LOL.

Im going to attempt to submerge it in some ATF/Acetone mixture overnight, then give it some heat..this really sucks because its the last piece I need to put my car back together.

edit- on the drilling thing.. I could be using the wrong bit..is there a special one I could use? It will be better than swinging a 40lb pipe wrench at it(again)

Thanks for the help ill give it another shot.
