Hello I have a 98 420a 2g and I recently put a full ebay exhaust on it and the geniuses that tapped the hole for the upstream o2 sensor made it so that i have 1-2mm of clearance between the wires of the o2 sensor and the blades of the passenger side radiator fan. Also, this o2 sensor just started throwing a code so I picked up a new Bosch one and of course this new o2 sensor is about 2 inches longer than the old one (which is currently installed) for some reason, meaning it will definitely interfere with the blades of the passenger side rad fan. I know one of the fans only kicks on under AC or emergency situations, drivers side I think, and I dont use AC so I was wondering if I could take that fan out completely and stick the cooling fan on the drivers side (where the ac fan would be) while still keeping it plugged into the same connector obviously so that it will kick on at idle. I searched all of google and couldnt find the answer to this fairly simple question so I thought Id try the newbie section of dsmtuners. Thanks in advance!

Ill be deleting the ac eventually but probably not until spring. I just need to know if its safe to run only 1 of the stock cooling fans on the drivers side without doing anything else such as removing the ac compressor. I really want to get this new o2 sensor in to see if it will clear the code.
Edit to Doom: Yeah I know its not a great idea but it has to be done if I want to get this sensor in. Im always watching the water temp like a hawk anyways and if something happened that would cause it to overheat I dont think that 2nd fan is going to be much help anyways, I know it wasnt when I had a tired water pump and it would overheat if left at idle for more than 2 minutes. The oem fans are what I have to work with, I dont want/have the resources to go the slim fan route.

Still havent touched anything yet, someone on Jalopnik.com said that I'd probably be fine in doing what I described but he said he only had 4g63 experience. Is there anyone with 420a experience and or knowledge out there that could give me an ok on my method or tell me it'll never work?

My ac was deleted on my car and it only had one fan. Never really ran hot honestly so you should be fine jist keep an eye on it. Like you say its an emergency fan and if there is an emergency hopefully youd park the car haha

The passanger fan is the A/c fan, and you can delete that with no negative consequences (assuming you also deleted your A/C.)

A lot of people who convert to turbo remove the A/C to make room for a downpipe. that fan is often deleted with it since it only turns on if the a/c is on.

My 420a didn't have AC or the passenger fan when I got it. Had no issues. Added the fan myself anyway on a switch so I could use for extra cooling when racing. Shouldn't hurt to delete. Any chance instead of removing that you could just extend and or reroute the o2 wires? Trying to come up with other possibilities that might maybe help.

my GReddy headers melted my A/C fan and its been deleted due to that for about a year and I haven't had any issues. I live in Texas and our last summer wasn't too hot, about high 90's a few 100 degree days and no overheating. Actually it did over heat once while highway driving for about 4 hours and then hit a standstill. All I had to do was turn off the ac, other than that no issues.
