2G Part Number Diagrams For VIN Inconsistencies

I recently found an online catalog that shows me part number diagrams by VIN for any region.
So now I can finally look up my VIN and get the necessary information as opposed to earlier where I would get no result at all.

After going through the parts of interest, I noticed that some of the diagrams do not correspond to the interior of my car however.
It is very confusing to say the least.

The first issue concerns the section "BODY - TRUNK LID & LOCK".
There is a part called " CABLE, FUEL FILLER LID LOCK RELEASE" (MB913247).
There is another part called "CABLE, TRUNK LID LOCK RELEASE" (MR220616).
These cables go to a part called "HANDLE, TRUNK LID LOCK RELEASE" (MR287588).
So I started to wonder where the part number is for what I would assume Mitsubishi would call "HANDLE, FUEL FILLER LID LOCK RELEASE".
This handle is next to the trunk lid lock release handle.
It is absolutely nowhere to be found.
I would think part number MR287588 would be called something like "HANDLE ASSY, FUEL FILLER/TRUNK LID LOCK RELEASE" if the fuel filler lid lock release handle was included.

The second issue concerns the section "CHASSIS ELECTRICAL - SWITCH & CIGAR LIGHTER".
There is a part called "MB920566 - SWITCH ASSY, FR DOOR POWER WINDOW DRIVER SIDE".
Now the diagram clearly shows this assembly has four switches.
Guess what?
There are six switches here on my car.
The part number for this 6-switch assembly is nowhere to be found either.

The third issue concerns the section "SEAT - FRONT SEAT".
Now here is where it gets especially interesting.
The catalog gives me two different part diagrams for the driver's side seat!
There are a lot of differences on the lower part of the seat between these diagrams.
The part called "COVER, FR SEAT SIDE SHIELD, LH" (MR731031) is similar to part "COVER, FR SEAT SIDE SHIELD, RH" (MR731033) on one of the diagrams.
The seat shown on this diagram also has manual knobs and levers for adjustments.
The other diagram shows a much shorter left hand side shield however.
Still the part number is the same!
The seat shown on this diagram has a power switch instead of the levers and one of the knobs.
However, the part number for the power switch is not even shown in the accompanying part lists!

Can someone explain these inconsistencies?

I just figured out the seat section as there was a power seat option.
It still does not explain the same part number for a clearly different part or the missing part number for the power switch however.

Which exact website are you using? Is it the Russian "auto-parts.spb.ru"? If so, that one takes information directly from CAPS and is fairly straight-forward to use. I always go there to cross-reference parts, get part numbers and just see how assemblies fit. It's super reliable.

One thing to keep in mind is that some part numbers over the years have been renewed with new ones which correlated to updated OEM parts.

Also, specifically for your query about the "trunk lid". Eclipses don't have a 'trunk lid'. You can't even click on that subsection. Our cars are hatchbacks, and the parts associated with the rear hatch are under DOOR > Tailgate Panel. For a Galant for example, you would use the Trunk Lid, as they are Sedans with separate trunks.

But to answer each question, here we go:

1. The small latch that you push up to unlock the fuel door is under section 43-410, DOOR > Tailage Panel & Glass, under the second image. There's a few part numbers listed.

2. Is your DSM a spyder/convertible? If so, that's most probably why you have a 6 switch driver side control panel. Non-convertible (standard) DSM chassis use the 4 switch panel. Thus, if you want to specifically look at your convertible chassis, you need to go back and manually select a 1995-1999 GS-T Convertible. Sometimes the program doesn't like VIN numbers. For example, it doesn't work with Eagle VINs.

3. All DSMs had an option for power seats. Also I think all power seats were also leather, but I'm not 100% sure on it. I've yet to see a cloth power seat. The differences you see in the side shield covers for the control mechanisms come from the different interior colors. Gray, Black, Beige etc... There's also a difference if it's a manual seat or power seat. So you can see you have a few combinations.

Also keep in mind that these diagrams are more or less reference images. Sometimes they do show exactly what you would see on the car, but often it's rough images related to that specific part/system.

I see now that I did not mention in this thread which trim level I have.
This is a Spyder GS-T.

The website you are referring to is "Under Construction".
I do not think I have ever used it.

I have actually been using three different websites to see if there are any differences.
They all allow me to look up part numbers by VIN.
This means the correct sales region is activated and thereby the exact part numbers along with part number diagrams are supposed to be shown.

There is stuff that clearly does not add up and this is by VIN!

So I am guessing "HANDLE, TRUNK LID LOCK RELEASE" (MR287588) also includes the handle for the fuel filler lid lock release?
I must say it is very strange they did not call that part for "HANDLE ASSY, FUEL FILLER/TRUNK LID LOCK RELEASE" when there are two separate handles for two different lids.
That would remove all doubt.

The part number MB920566 you are mentioning is the part number I have for this part as well.
The accompanying diagram clearly shows a 4-switch assembly and that is what caused the confusion.

They show sub-diagrams for other parts that come in two versions.
Just take a look at "CHASSIS ELECTRICAL" and go to "REAR EXTERIOR LAMP".
Here they clearly show there are different backup lamp kits for different year models.
So very strange they do not show the 6-switch assembly on the diagram for the convertible then.

mitsubishi ASA doesn't always show the finer details of the parts but you can enter a part number and it will tell you which models use that part. your car is a D38A. so MB920566 is the correct part number

Here's a direct link to a D38A (Spyder GS-T) section. Everything that you actually need is in English, the subsections are too, so you can navigate easily. And you are right, for the Spyder, the Trunk Lid is indeed clickable, and you can find the fuel door lever there, too. Check it out and see if you can find the parts you need.
