I want to paint my stock rims and I was wounding if anybody had any pics of there stock rims painted, and whats the best paint to use. Thanks

thanks for the links, I have the 5 spoke swerly ones though, do you have any pics of thoes?

If you have any pics please post them, I still would like to see them Thanks

What color are you painting them? Preping the rims sanding them down and getting all the pits out will determine how well they will look. If you plan to keep them a while and want them to look good for year to come you might want to thing about getting them powder coated if you feel like dropping the extra money.

I wouldnt paint them, cause it will peel off. Have them powder coated, it makes them look like they came from the factory that way, and its way more resistant to everything.

or just try painting them since it will take an hour and cost you less than 15 bucks and then if it looks like poopoo you can take them back off and have them powder coated. Alot of people have had good luck with paint and as long as you scuff the surface up really good with 400 grit sand paper or a scotch brite pad then you should be fine.

i painted my stock rims. Beats payin upwards of 400 dollars for some for the time being while i build my engine up. Mines turned out great and they didnt start chipping until like 3 months later, and the chips are small and easily fixable. I cleaned mines thoroughly and sanded them down, wish i sanded more to get it smoother but i was in a rush that night and was tryna hit up the races. I used black break caliper paint because its pretty durable ....

As long as you prep them well, sufficient amount of paint and then some clear coats... they will last a while. I painted mine on my 2g more than a year ago with the duplicolor wheel paint and the only chips I have are from removing/putting on lug nuts. pics in gallery

i have 3g eclipse GS rims...the ones that look like 2 different types of spokes(ones that bend and ones that are straight) they were painted black once by the guy who had it before me and now they are chipped due to the tire company not being carefull with their freaking wrenches:mad:  I dont want to have the tires taken off and taking off the wheel weights so would it be ok if i just left them on and then have the rim sandblasted? or will that damage the tire?

Have you tried it? Obviously not, the paint will not peel off. It will chip if hit hard enough with something but it won't just peel and it takes a pretty forceful impact to chip.

Everyone knows that powdercoatings is a better alternative. Everyone also knows that powdercoating is hundreds more than painting.

Not true, to do them right you need to strip the original finish first, then do some sanding. Doing them right takes anywhere from 5 hours to a day, depending on how fast you work.

okay maybe not an hour but my point is it wont take to long so just try it. Also if it takes you all day then either you have the worlds most pitted wheels or you are an amputee that only has two fingers and are retarded slow. The paint stripper works quick (quicker if you dont buy the aerosol kind) and as long as your wheels arent pitted sanding is little more than scuffing the gloss off so the paint has something to adhere to. And i understand that it may take hours of drying time between 5 coats or so but as far as actual working time each coat will take you 5 minutes.
Also If you are painting the entire wheel a solid color instead of going for the polished lip look then you can scuff the gloss off of the factory coating (use common sense though if the factory coating is cracked or pitted then this isnt gonna work) and just paint over it. Thats how we did the wheels on my buddys probe and its looked sweet for over a year, no chips no peeling, no fading.

Dont listen to this guy he obvioously doesent know what he is talking about. It took me a couple weeeks of a ciouple hours a day to get my wheels done properly. If you are going to paint them do it right and strip them, sand to bare metal, prime properly, etc etc.

Here are some pictures of mine to show you how they will turn out.

well yours were pitted and rusted so you obviously would have to strip them. If it took you a couple weeks then you are probably the slowest worker ever. We did my buddies probe wheels in a day and they look nicer than yours if i do say so myself.
