Painting Prep

I'm looking to paint my car here soon and get all of my carbon fiber put on. I was thinking of getting everything painted the interior and engine bay. Would it be easier to have my engine rebuild while getting it painted? They have to pull the engine while they do the rebuild right?

yes you should have the engine out if you want to get it rebuild. and i think it would be easier to paint it while the engine is out that way you can get the engine bay cleaned up and painted

I was also wondering if I can upgrade the engine and all that without touching the turbo system? I want to upgrade to a T-28 I just need to get it painted and engine rebuilt first.

you can upgrade the whole engine and still run the stock turbo if you wanted to, I myself like the T28 i had one in my gsx

Yea cause I'm gutting the interior and have removed the headliner already. I needed the extra clearance for my helmet when I autocross. I have a family member who is a custom car builder/painter and he's fixing some rust and repainting the car for pennies I just have to buy the paint and help with the prep work.

Personal experience talking here... be careful what you get into.... if you are having someone else do the work for you then it should be alright, you are going to spend a lot of money having them do all that work... i was going to do it myself "all at once" but let’s just say the more i took off the car the more crap i found wrong with it and, well, that frame ended up in the recycle center. so now i am starting over with a totally different car, only this time i am doing it in stages... engine compartment first, then the exterior, then whatever is left of my can of paint i will do the inside of the car with it.

Ouch! haha Yea I was ran off the freeway about 5ish years ago and totaled the car but never claimed it so I have been slowly replacing everything. Since then I bought a Jeep so taking a year or so to fix it right won't be a problem. I think the car has been driven like 1000 miles since the accident and has had the frame straitened and many parts replaced (New trans, clutch, entire suspension, brakes, tires, rims, radiator, and I have an assortment of carbon fiber and stock 99 eclipse body panels (Not installed yet). My step mom's cousin rebuilds car from scratch so I should be alright when it comes to having the work done for cheap and the quality of work is very good. Better be hahaha he's already customized my dad's lowered 1500 sierra and restored our 88 camaro. The only problem I have is cash and time free that I can help him remove parts and sand.

I was surprised in my wreck the engine and turbo system were untouched except for my intercooler which got twisted a little but still functions just fine. Before the wreck the car was only getting 10 mpg so I know there is something wrong with the engine but my dad needs me to get all of the body panels out of his garage... he needs the space for his new Camaro and Roush F150. The engine rebuild will have to wait till after its painted.
