I'm currently in the middle of a slew of changes to my car and am looking for a little insight here. I took off my head and peeled off the gasket but there's still residue of it left over. What's the best way to take off the rest of the gasket? I got a gasket removal spray from NAPA but was wondering if I would need to block off the coolant passages when spraying the block down. Also how does everyone else prep their block for this?
Also I'll be putting on a 1g head on a 98 bottom end and was wondering which set of ARP studs I'm going to need for this? Thanks ahead for the help.

Personally I would put a little tape or something over the holes. Or better yet allpy the spray t a rag rather than directly onto the block or head. Also, you may use a razor blade with the spray as long as you dont gouge the surface. Take your time! Are you changing it because of a blown head gasket? If so you might need to get it machined. What gasket are you going to use now? Oh and I would think the 1g or the 2g studs would work fine. Not 100%, but I dont think there is a difference. You could always call ARP if you still have doubts.

girlierace- thanks for the input. The head is being changed out because I have recently come across a 1g head that's ported so I decided to upgrade while the trans is out. Before this the head was switched out by Extreme Motorsports in md so I don't think I'm in need of any machining.
wolf- thanks for the info on head studs
gurmanator- I just got a bad vibe from using sandpaper on my block. I got a feeling that I'll go sandpaper crazy in a spot and that will be that.

I heard about people using buffing wheels with a dremel to take the gasket off, is this fine? I used that for the sealant on the oil pan, to test it out because the oil pan is not going to need machining, and it worked pretty well. Any info would be great thanks.
