can i use spray clear out of a can to restore some lost clear on my car? i would sand first of course

I've used many different kinds of aresol clear coat and they all have sucked so far. If it were that easy, then I think everyone would be doing it. Go buy a can of clear first, and experiment with it a little bit. I think you'll quickly see that it's just not the same as the stuff at the body shop. You're more than welcome to try; I'd just hate to see you ruin a panel on your DSM.

No. Don't try. Re-clearing over dead/missing clear will not work.
