Somewhere in, Colorado
Today my CEL just came on. My wife and I drove around for maybe 30 minutes and came home. A few minutes after, I came back out to move my car since it was blocking my wife's car. Upon starting it, the CEL was on where it hadn't been on when we got home. So it turned out to be P1104 which I researched and all the posts I've seen involve an MBC being installed and keeping the BCS plugged in. However, I don't have an MBC. I have the factory setup installed and everything has worked fine. I looked at the BCS and there was a break in the wire coating. I spliced the wire so there's no breaks and the CEL is still on. Do I need to clear the code and just wait to see if it comes back on? I have also seen in the past that if I rev up the engine and the turbo spools up, usually the wastegate will move. It isn't doing that now. What more should I be looking at?

P1104 Mitsubishi - Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid
- Faulty Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid
- Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid harness is open or shorted
- Turbocharger Wastegate Solenoid circuit poor electrical connection

I found the above info from http://engine-codes.com/p1104_mitsubishi.html

If your actuator isn't moving after the repair you did, then you need a new wastegate solenoid it sounds like.
Cheap fix

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I went and test drove my spyder and everything went fine. Turbo spooled right and the bov was good. Obviously I can't tell if the WG is opening or not. My boost gauge read the proper boost as well. So I cleared the code and will see if it returns. Until then I'll be doing very light driving so I don't blow the turbo. I'll probably go a eat and get a new actuator as well just to be safe.

No problem, seems like a simple fix too. It's cheap enough to just change it then you know for sure. I think I remember reading a thread on it taking around 45 minutes or an hour to do.

Since my last posts regarding this issue, the CEL went away and no more issues occured. About a week ago, I reinstalled my VRSF FMIC and the CEL code has returned. I will be installing a MBC real soon and get a new wastegate as well. However, if I need to leave the BCS plugged in to avoid the CEL, what prevents it from coming back if that is the root of the problem?
