So basically I have a 98 Spyder NT. Car has been running mint and after a hard pull I noticed it now it overheats to the red line. The car does not feel as if it loses power when over heating but after a certain time and temperature coolant starts shooting out of the coolant reservoir....prior to it shooting out of the resorvoir I get a strong scent of burnt coolant through the vents. I did notice a hose with a T that is connected to what looks like some type of solenoid under the battery. I am pretty sure this is my problem I need a picture to see where this hose connects to. I will try to get pictures but it's a very thin hose, small in diameter that is connected under the battery but I don't know where the other end connects to. Both fans work perfect, AC and Heat also works fine. I believe that this line vacuums somewhere. Any help please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Sorry guys disregard the loose hose comment, NEWB mistake I forgot it was the hose for my windshield fluid. So I let the car idle a bit...it idled regular temperature once I started stepping on the gas to rev it up it would start heating up. According to the "temp gauge". The top radiator hose gets very hot quickly I don't know if this is normal. I didn't hear or see any leaks in any of the hoses. So I'm thinking it could just be a bad sensor but I disconnected all the plugs around the thermostat sensor and none of them look rotted or burnt. The coolant reservoir keeps ending up dry and I don't know where it's all going there's no coolant under my car. Help please this is the DD.

coolant may help transfer heat from the engine around the radiator and back, but if your fans are weak, or not kicking in it will still overheat, so check if they run strong then if your fans are fine you must verify your thermostat is not stuck closed not allowing it to circulate, if you dont have a replacement thermostat just remove it and drive around without it, it would just keep your engine cooler for a lil longer,

now if it still over heats then you should consider flushing your whole coolant system, because it may be possible that random garbage in the lines clogged your passages around the block or clogged some passages in the radiator too,( if you dont have an idea what could ever get in your lines and mess them up the answer is rust, it can build up very bad in there if used bad coolant mixes.) not allowing the coolant to flow properly, then if all fails change your water pump, hopefully its not all the above, but that breaks it down beside replacing senors which is unheard of.

If your reservoir is ending up dry then you might just be low on coolant...Our cars will be quick to overheat even if you're down just a little. Pop the radiator cap when the engine is cold, top it off, fill up the res, and give it a shot. For good measure I'd just do the thermostat and coolant temperature sensor right away, too.

Maybe their is air in your coolant hoses??
Park the car somewhere and let it cool a little bit. Wrap a old rag around your hand and pop the radiator cap off. Coolant will spray every where but the air bubble will be gone.

Couldn't hurt to try:p
Worked for me when i changed me heater core hoses.

Thanks for the input guys. Both fans kick in strong and I dont know about the disappearing of coolant just being low because I will literally pour it in to full and within a couple hours its bone dry. I hope it's just a bad T-Stat because I dont see any leakage near the water pump....also I'm sure if the HG was on it's way out I start seeing smoke coming out of the exhaust like what happened to my GSX. I will replace the T-Stat flush the radiator and get back to you guys. Also btw when the heat is on full blast the car does not over heat so rapidly. Again thanks in advance.

I had this happen to me several days ago, but fixed it yesterday. I was losing coolant every 30 miles or so, didn't really notice it.

No signs of leaking anywhere (not even around the neck), passed the leak down test but failed when I pressurized the coolant system. Turned out my coolant cap went bad letting the coolant off as steam!!

My suggestions are:

1. Look for leaks underneath the car while warm and there is pressure. (go for a short drive)

2.Pressurize the coolant system and cap with a tester. (See if your cap is holding pressure of at least 14-16 lbs without a drop in pressure.)

3.If you don't see a thick white cloud chances are it's not the head gasket as you would see mixing in coolant and it usually takes time to burn depending on how bad the leak is.

4.Make sure your engine isn't consuming it and your head gasket is good, by performing a leak down test and/or compression test.

5.Make sure there is sufficient flow through the radiator and your thermostat is opining to allow flow.

This tool to test the cap and system (if you don't have the piece for the system test, you will have to become creative) is available at AutoZone for rental.

And as for the bubbles in the coolant I guess I've been lucky all these years with just filling it up and not burping it, but i do let it run with the cap off every once in a while. :shhh:
