So the car is overheating... Thermo housing is hot, but the rad is cold. I just put in a brand new thermostat. Please advise.

Upon further investigation it is seeming as though the water pump may be the culprit.

So it's looking like the water pump might be defective. There's this red crap trickling down it that looks a bit like hydraulic lube.. maybe it's been there for a while I don't know. Either way I'm going to pull it out tomorrow. Also I think I may have an explanation for my oil pressure as there's a crap load of oil around the base of the lower timing cover. I haven't quite got the cover off yet, just waiting to find someone with a chain wrench so I can get the crankshaft pulley off.

If I can't find a chain wrench, does anyone know a safe way to get the pulley off? I tried shoving a flat head screw driver between the top cam shaft pulleys but decided it might be a bad idea.

The big bolt in the center of the crank pulley does not need to be removed to take off the crank pulley. The big bolt holds on the crank sprocket for the timing belt; the crank pulley slips right over it and is held on by (4) 12mm bolts. Use a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar to hold the big bolt in the center while loosening the other four bolts.
