My car seems to be overheating, as stated in the title, and I was wondering what would cause this. My coolent lines are very stiff and pressurized with fluid. Shouldn't they be mushy and easly pinchable? Another possibilty I was thinking of was that the thermostat may not be working corectly. Could the be the problem causeing the lines to become pressuized?

Also I have a 14" slim line fan and it is pushing air towards the raidiator instead of sucking it threw it, could this cause the problem or is the coolent not flowing properly?

Thanks,
Mike

Im pretty sure if the car is running, your coolent lines should be pressureized, thats why you dont open a radiator cap on a warm car. How long does it take for your car to overheat? if your thermastat was stuck shut that would mean that it would be a closed system and shouldnt take very long to reach overheating tempratures. as for the fan im not quite sure.

The optimal flow of air for our cars is for the air to be pulled through the radiator as originally designed. Otherwise you are blowing hot underhood air through the radiator. But I doubt that this alone would cause overheating. However the fans that I have seen will allow you to switch the postive and ground wires to turn the fan in the opposite direction. You can try this to see if there is any improvement.

More likely there is another issue causing your overheating. As mentioned if your thermostat is stuck closed it will cause problems. They are cheap. I would consider replacing it with a 180 degree thermostat since you live in Florida. While your at it flush the entire system and make sure all the air is purged out of it. It maybe a good idea to replace the radiator cap as well if you have any concerns that the system pressure is excessive.

Have you noticed any leaking coolant from underneath the water pump (timing belt area)?
Maybe even check tension of the belt.

I think what he means by closed system is that if the thermostat won't open the coolant doesn't pass through the radiator to be cooled down.

to check your thermostat let the car worm up the grab the high and low radiater hoses they both should bet hot. if the top one hot and the bottom one is cold u need a new thermostat.
