I have a full apexi exhaust without the cat, came with the car. New years night all the hangers decided to break so the exhaust fell and scraped home, ive put a hanger on the bike to hold it up but it was scraping under the rear end so not it makes this really ANNOYING sound which i dont like. So i was hoping to just unbolt the back exhaust and keep it open all the way till it gets to the rear end. And my car is lowered so i think it will look pretty nice without the giant exhaust can in the back. I was thinking of unbolting it from the o2 housing but i i dont want to get pulled over every day. Anybody run it without the rear exhaust?

Also since it was dragging the rear o2 sensor has been spliced, so i need to replace that.

open downpipe will be very loud. i had tack welded a test pipe in my car and i bottomed out over a driverway. it split my exhaust right at the tack. didnt sound very good at all and was to loud for DDing.

although my friend removed his exhuast from a jetta Vr6 and man it was loudd but sounded really good.

Will probably be VERY loud with a small t25 turbo, never know until you try though. If you get pulled over just say your exhaust was dragging and you need to get it fixed once you get the money, but until then you've gotta get places LOL. Most cops will let you off the hook, just don't act like a punk.

ill prob just pull of the rear exhaust

Its OK if you are just driving easy it just has a loud whistle to it LOL.

Why don't you just take it to an exhaust shop and have them make new hangers for you?

ill be takign it to the exhaust shop next week or so but for now its annoying with the hole in the rear so ill just unbolt it. if i get pulled over ill tell them someone stole my exhaust

I had to run open dp for 2 days until i got my downpipe extended to match my apexi catback. It is loud but isn't. It is really lound in the car. I mean like shake stuff loud but outside the car it isn't rediculous... It is defidently disturbing the peace loud but it is managable. You also can hear the turbo despool which sounds sick! But i ran it no problems for two days,

Sad part is they may believe you that someone stole your exhaust. People suck. ( people saw-zaw'ing cats of cars)

yea ralliart and evo same engines and turbos, ralliart has evo 9 drivetrain, only come automatic with paddle shifters though, so the positive is that you can still buy parts as you would be buying them for an evo 10, now where can you get any performance for it?? still unknown

You should notice signifigant differences with open DP besides the noises. Boost will be a couple PSI higher with no adjustment to MBC, it will come on a little earlier, and you will feel a little more torque. Backpressure is VERY BAD for turbo cars. A 3" exhaust eliminates most of it. If you think backpressure is necessary then switch back to a stock O2, turbine housing, and the 2" pipes.

My exhaust fell off from the cat back the first day I got it. I haven't put a muffler on it since and I don't get any more looks than any other 20 something in a sport compact. I drive very conservatively though. I don't think I'll pass the noise test at emissions, plus you need to have a pipe exiting somewhere outside your vehicle for them to test.

I don't know where people get the idea that back pressure is good anywhere or any time after the turbo. Read up on how a turbine works! Heat and pressure differential. On small engines with small turbos some people have seen low end torque loss. I think it's imagined in the cases of DSMs that claim it to be true. You'll have 100 people that love their 3" exhausts and one grumpy person making 50 posts about how they lost torque and won't ever go bigger than 2.5".

The only real problem with too little back pressure is creep. My turbo creeps bad, really bad. Bad enough that with the flapper unhooked from the can I can still get to my fuel cut at 15psi.

Oh, and unbolting the DP will roast your alternator, so just chop the pipe.

thats exactly what i was trying to explain, sucks being busy at work and on here at the same time LOL. next time ill just wait until i can explain what im trying to say in full detail. :thumb:

im so taking out the rear exhaust tomorrow, hey also saves weight too, big snow storm tomorrow, dont want that rear exhaust getting more banged up

I've been running open downpipe on my eclipse for 2 years now. Its not as obnoxious as other people will say and it actually sounds great. Not overly loud either. I've never been hassled by the cops, I've even been pulled over for other violations, and they didnt say a word about the exhaust. If your driving the car hard enough for the exhaust to be a problem, then you will get pulled over for speeding, not a loud exhaust. I say go for it. It wont hurt your engine either as some will say. You may loose some bottome end torque.
I also ran my srt4 for a year with 3 inch side exit, straight exhaust. Again, not problems.

If you think no backpressure is a good thing, then you've obviously never attempted to hold 15psi without creeping.

No backpressure = great for a race car running high RPM's that never drops off boost.
No backpressure = bad for daily drivers and cars that can't afford to lose off-boost torque.

i drive my 1g with the dp unbolted. Open Turbo no exhaust. LOL i just got it and having a lil fun till i get an xhaust

umm... i would think at the very least you may want to pick up an ebay o2 housing so at least you still have your 02 sensor...

watch your boost... turbo spool unregulated by backpressure can creep... knock knock... who's there? detonation...
