HA HA HA Do I have to post the dyno sheet for you to believe me? They are weak as hell. Did you see that show on the speed channel? THey also dynoed a cobra and it dynoed 185. Then they added a bunch of shit and dynoed it and it was now at an amazing 200 rwhp. After that they had to charge it bring the total to an astounding 280 rwhp. HA HA HA. Mustangs are way over played. Sure they can go fast and make good numbers but your everyday mustang with a straight pipe and a k&n doesn't have shit. Also I am rollin the t-2 small and my friend has a 2000 gt 5-speed. From a downshift I pull him very slightly of course from a stop I get the jump and he never catchs up. He has a best time of 15.0. Seriously if you want me to get the dyno sheet I can. Also our dyno allows us to do quarter mile runs. The same mustang that did 175 rwhp was estimated to run a 15.4 on that same dyno.

you sure your not talking about a 94-98 mustang GT, they did have 215hp at the crank.

The cobra on the other hand runs 14.0 1/4 miles easy.
and the 98 has 305 hp at the crank..

There is something seriously wrong with that car then. It probably is only firing on 3 cylinders.

and if your buddy can only muster a 15.0 on a newer GT, he is a jackass. Those are 14.0 cars easy. New Cobra's are beastly.

175 whp is some kind of number our cars put down stock.

My buddy with a 96 GT (the crappy ones) has a bunch of stuff done, and he can probably muster up a 14.9

I think you must be mistaken. Either you're mistaken or his car is terribly broke.

And yeah, my buddy at work has a 98 cobra. basic k&N, exhaust and a shot of nitrous and he runs 12.9.

No slouch.

Im wondering wtf you're talking about now   :|

I was reading the other thread.

That gave me some insight.

You're in Colorado. High Altitudes.

So a 15.0 second quarter mile is more equal to a 14.0 or so.

And that 178 whp dyno makes more sense. I suppose at a lower altitude he'd make more power. Enough more power to make better times.

Darn man, why'd you choose to live in CO? Thats like the uncoolest place to live if you have a sports car!

everyone is saying to practice your launches and i agree...ppl used to tell me that but one day my friend showed me how to kind of build boost off the line and my car pulled like a bat out of hell...though its not good on drivetrain im sure a bill is well worth it.....anywasy pull up to the line put in gear and just start revving it at about 3500-4 grand ..dont hold it just rev then let off rev then let off ( do this in a fast manner, dont let the rpms drop more than 500) ...try to time it where when you rev you let off the clutch...hopefully your clutch with hold out and u will fly out of the hole, takes some practice but its better than just sayin go out and practice launches

You have got to be kidding me. It was a cobra with the body style that came before the 2000 like my friend has. I don't know the exact year but yes it dyno'd at 175 rwhp. IT WAS COMPLETLEY STOCK!!!!! Yes the 2000 ran a best of 15.0. I AM NOT LYING!!!! I did not personally witness the lightning run at bandimere, but the driver himself admitted he ran a 13.5. Also the T/A beat him and he runs a best of 12.8. REMEMBER I AM IN COLORADO AND BANDIMERE SPEEDWAY IS LIKE EVEN HIGHER THEN DENVER!!!! IT'S IN THE FOOTHILLS!!! Do you guys know what the rocky mountains are? Do you have any idea of how long a mile is? Hints mile high city? My teacher at DADC says he once went to florida after living in colorado his entire life. While there they rented a ford escort. He said that car actually felt pretty fast compared to what he was used to here in colorado. He said alltitude makes a huge difference. Mind you this mechanic could be my grandfather. He has been in the field pretty much all his life. He also drives some really rare mustang which he said was one of like 499 or 599 made. It's a hard top convertable cobra. Charged and dynoed at over 400 hp. So he knows what he is talking about. Cars are alot slower up here. We could go to pueblo and run at a little lower of an altitude but why drive 2 hourse? All I know is what I personnally saw so if you guys don't think it's true then whatever.

Ya altitute matters, but its all relative. If that mustang would run a 15.4, then a stock GSX would run a high 16.

The one show on thew speed channel dynoed a 2002 Bullit Mustang on one of those MUSTANG DYNOs, the one that adds for road drag and driving conditions, and it put up like 226 at the rear wheels. That Cobra could have put up 175, but that is not the point of this thread. the point is that unless you are matched up against a quad cam 4.6, it dosnt take much to beat a stock or mildly upgraded mustang, especially if you have one of those little knobs to turn. Like everyone said already, the DSM should take the stang, but it depends on the drivers capabilities. Boost it up from 11 to 16 psi and put your next post in the kill stories.

I'm thinking it was a GT with Cobra badging on it... BACK TO THE TOPIC... You should deffinately get him this time. But you need to get your BG hooked up, go out and set your boost, and the practice your launches. I like to launch around 4k-4.5k

actually man...i do think u'll beat him, but u really need exhaust and ur boost gauge set up. thats when the mods u already have shud all work a lot better together. stock exhaust plain sux man. first thing i did after free mods, k&n n intake was get a new boost gauge and 3" downpipe and race exhaust man. no cat. first thing that happened after i got the exhaust is a major boost leak. that pos stock gauge reads about 13psi, and my new gauge reads only 6psi. i can heard it too. anyways...ya man...buy those right away if u can...good luck (not like u need it vs a rustang)...LOL, have fun...

:talon:

you guys dont give mustangs enough credit. My friends regular mustang is torqy and fast as hell. its only a 3.8L and not the 4.6L or whatever the GT is, and its still fast. but i think you will take him

yo guys...

i got him...i beat him. And i got the money back too. :thumb:

so it turns out i hooked my boost gauge up (with the help of the mod on this site l2rtsiawd) and i was running a whole 8lbs of boost. Got that boost controller on...cranked the son of a bi*** up to 16...and OMG...its like a completely different car. the BOV is loud as hell now, it boosts SOOOOOO much harder then before. I took the mustang pretty easily, couple cars to be exact.

so then hes like "ok you beat my stock GT, now race my friends b16 CRX" so i accepted the challenge. Were going to race for $150 bucks. I thought I would post on here before I did something stupid. I searched and it looks like i wont have a problem beating the CRX as long as he isnt spraying or turboed or SC'd.

So thats my next race, Ill let everyone know what goes down with that, It will either be tomorrow night, or maybe next weekend. It all depends.

Leave feedback on the CRX, later

your asking if you could beat a honduh...

id say your 150 richer...just make sure hes not turboed

Well, seeing as how you already won, this is almost pointless, but just thought I would share my .02 anyway for the others who say that they are fast cars :). As you know, I have been building/tuning/modding, etc. DSM's for years now- so I know them well :). I also have an 03 GT convertible (hey- it is a nice cruiser!!)- and I can tell you with 100% certainty that a mildly modded (free stuff+MBC) DSM will hand the GT it's ass in the 1/4 if you can drive it. When I bought my GT, I traded in my "slightly" (boost, exhaust and K&N) Mazdaspeed for it and the sales guy didn't believe me when I told him how slow the GT was. he said things like "yeah right, you drive a protege" :). So I tossed him the keys to the Mazda and we both went out on a back road and played- he KILLED the GT everytime- and he had no FWD driving experience!!! he told me he was almost too embarrassed to sell it to me after that.. We even played a couple times on the main road and the looks on peoples faces while a protege was smoking a GT was priceless :)..

The GT's can be made very fast, obviously- but in stock form, they are weak- ASIDE from the SC Cobras. Granted there are all types of drivers and some will get much better times than others, however- I can assure you- I can race- and the GT is slow stock :). There is a guy locally with gers, headers and exhaust and he was EXTREMELY psyched when he went 13.8- I never saw someone so happy with such a weak (for the type of car) slip :).

Sorry for the novel, just stating my opinion since I have experience with both. The GT is a slow- but NICE (IMHO) car. Maybe it is just because I am used to driving 11 second daily drivers though :).

back when i just had my sbr 20g turbo, not tuned, no fuel injectors, no front mount, boosting 15 psi...running 14.3 in the 1/4 ... (didnt know how to launch back then) i whooped up on a turbo crx....u can takem

i raced a guy with a slightly built b16 crx with 100 shot nitrous and he beat me by like a car. i only have most of the stage 1 mods. if he wasn't runnin a huge amount of nitrous he woudnt have won so if its just a b16 crx u should have no prob
