sorry guys, dumb question.... from the rear of the car to the motor, what peices do i need for a full 3" exhaust ??

catback, downpipe, highflow cat, ( ? headers ?) anything else ?

Check out www.kteller.com. A turbo back has a down pipe,"test pipe"/convertor and all iping toget youto the mufflerofyourchoice. great prices.Turboback for $515.in aluminumized steel. Mark

Are you aware of what the emission laws are in your state and how strong they are enforced? That would ultimately decide what you do. Apex sells a 3" ss dp and catback that you could get for around $250(dp) + $550(cat) = $800. Thats not bad for 3" ss. However there is no cat in this setup but for another $200 you could add one in.

Also you have you considered if you want an 02 eliminator type dp? That is the only way to get a real 3" turbo to tip system.

To answer your question, between the engine and the end of the car you have (in this order, starting from the engine):

Exhaust manifold, turbine housing (of your turbo), O2 housing, downpipe, cat or test pipe, catback, muffler.

Your best bet will be to port your exhaust manifold collector and your turbo's turbine housing and o2 housing if you aren't buying an aftermarket one (www.vfaq.com has procedures for both) then building the rest of your exhaust accordingly.

Another thought--have you considered having a local shop build one for you? It'll be a hellofalot cheaper than 1000

I was also looking into that. How much do shops usually charge for a catback only? I'd probably go witha 2.5 and then I'd buy my own thermal muffler and have them add it on. By the way, are there lots of different styles of the thermal muffler, or is there just one?

P.S. I'm not tryin to jack this thread, I just don't want to start a new one just for that question.

The catback includes the muffler and the Thermal is not available as a muffler alone. It is also part of a 3" system for around $570. Check out what I already posted, www.extrememotorsports.com. I would go with a www.kteller.com turboback for the same, $575, plus a muffler. Much cheaper, just not polished. Mark

Can't you buy a thermal catback with a Apexi Downpipe? After shipping from what i've been seeing it would cost around $800. If i'm wrong please correct me but this is what i've seen. :)

If the Apexi is a cat delete then you could do it for that price. I amnot familiar with the Apexipipe.mark

I just got a turbo back SS 3" system, "test" pipe w/resonator welded in the "B" pipe with a Magnaflow muffler for $645. It sounds like a few guys really want a Thermal muffler!! I am looking for a quiet system at idle and cruise that will flow well at WOT. I believe I will have achieved it. Mark

or save your money and goto a exhaust shop and have them make you a turboback for 400$

Not many work with stainless or do mandrel bends and would include a ss muffler for $400. without a cat!

Where im from you can get mandrel in alot of places, and who wants a cat anyways. buy the muffler on ebay for 70$, so call it 500$

ok about the o2 eliminator,.... im not even sure what its for, LOL wha the the o2 sensor do?

and what will happen if i choose to keep / get rid of it ??

so far i think : thermal catback, megan racing DP ( depending on this o2 stuff) ??

whats a good high-flow cat tahts pretty cheap ? ALL 3"

i meant whats better, downpipe with o2 elim. or a regular downpipe ?

im not really sure what the o2 does..

the o2 is what comes off the turbo, and the downpipe bolts onto the o2 hgousing. an o2 eliminator includes it all as one peice thus flowing better

about the shop doin the work, i had a local shop do a 3 inch cat-back. not stainless and it was press bent ( but the smoothest press bend i have ever seen) and the total was $108.

If you really want a Thermal you can buy universal Thermal R&D mufflers at www.NipponPower.com I bought mine from there, then had a local shop build me a catback, 3" Mendrel bent stainless for $100. The muffler was $150 and a used Apexi downpipe was $180 shipped from someone on here.
