1G oil restrictor for hx35

where exactly can i buy a restrictor? sorry im terrible with these thread sizes and whatever.
I put on a HX35 over winter break and just finally got to drive my car for the first time since then and checked oil pressure after seeing a thread about hx40's oiling. So i got a cheap oil pressure gauge to check it with from auto zone and hooked it to the feed. Im seeing a lot more than i should at wot. Like 90-95psi. Its fed via a -4an line. I think it's 1/8" NPT size on the turbo? would that be right? My drain is only a 10an and I read that it's okay but 12an and even bigger is optimal if not using a restrictor. I spent so much time making my drain and dont have a time and place to remove all that with my oil pan again at the moment to change it, so I'm just wanting to get a restrictor for it.

Now I just can't actually find where to buy one? Where i've seen oil restrictors they dont actually list the restriction. I'm thinking I need a .75 or .80. Would this be right?
 
Your feed line is attached to a 1/8" npt hole, and you are worried about restricting it to .75 or .8? I hope that is not .75 or .8 inches... Hint: 1/8 = .125 and .8>.75>.125

The way you are using "it" in bold suggests that you want to restrict the drain. Now I will give you the benefit of doubt that this is not what you mean.

BUT... I hope you are not talking about your oil drain. To actually answer your question, take oil pressure measurements now, note your goals, add a restrictor. If you passed your goals drill it out a little bit and repeat. If not, try again and get a smaller restrictor.

Try rtm racing, they have a holset drain and restrictor options that you might find helpful. This is what I am running on my setup
 
If you have a 4an feed then use a female to male 4an oil restrictor. The ones on ebay work fine, just drill it out until your pressure is in spec.

hx35<------4an feed ---------<restrictor<ofh adapter(4an to 1/8" npt)

It's technically 1/8" bspt, but npt will work with some teflon tape/sealer

What RPM are you seeing 90-95psi at? Also, what oil are you using?

Buy a black FP filter (for a ball bearing turbo), take it apart, and drill the restrictor end to whatever size you need. You win two ways- you get the restrictor AND you get an inline filter to protect the turbo.

You don't need .075" to drop 20psi....you'll be cutting flow nearly in half of what it currently is. Around .100" should be sufficient. Over-restricting will do more damage than no restrictor at all.
 
Just wanted to report back. The .100" ended up perfect. At WOT the turbo sees a max of barely over 80 so its still a bit higher than perfect but its much better than what it would of been without it. Thanks everyone who gave me constructive responses!
 
If I'm not mistaken, the 1/8 port is not filtered oil. On my oil housing its a 3/8 line. From research it appears it's pretty regular to see a 20 psi drop across your filter so that drops you down a good bit if you actually swap your feed to the filtered side. I know there's entire threads and endless arguments on all this but it seems to me like pressure is the only thing that can harm the turbo. Pressure comes from your drain being too small and your feed blasting oil into the center housing. Having torn up quite a few holsets from oiling issues I've become paranoid about mine. I custom made a 3/4" drain and bored it out even further to ensure my oil drained as fast as possible. I used a stm oil feed line for several thousand miles with no restrictor till I started inspecting my blown turbo bearings. Every one has discoloration from heat. I have a brand new oil pump and no restrictor so all I can assume is the stm line is smaller than an actual 4 an, which it appears to be. Because these turbos are oil cooled it only makes sense to have as large of a feed and return as your motor will safely allow. I'm currently testing a 6an feed with the previous 3/4 drain after inspecting many of the turbos on the equipment I work around and discovering the majority of their feeds are 6an sized. I have my balance shafts removed so hopefully I won't be pulling too much oil from the crank and head but I will update if anything negative comes up.

Moral of my post is I wouldn't run a restrictor at all, I would bore out the oil pressure relief to see a max of 90 psi pre filter, feed my turbo with a line between 4-6an after the filter, and ensure I had a large drain. I'm no expert andI haven't rebuilt as many turbos as justin, but I've rebuilt 4 and all of them needed more cooling which comes from a higher volume of oil.
