Oil pump service/replacement

Heya guys, getting a valve job done on my car and Im replacing all the timing components and water pump, gaskets, ect. Now as far as teh oil pump, what would make it go bad? Does it need replacing or just a change of gears? I dont think its broken, but at the same time, I bought my car dead with bent valves, and a shredded balance shaft belt, I havent started the car yet.

Gears can get worn out and such with old oil pumps. Oil pressure will drop over time and that can kill the engine. You can't get the gears seperate from the front case so you if you buy a new oil pump you'll have new gears. While you're pulling that off, you might as well go ahead remove the balance shafts also.

They wear out. Ingesting junk speeds the process. Since I don't know how many miles are on your pump or how much work your doing I'd suggest replacing it. That way you get a good pump and good seals with only the cam seals left on the front side.

You can buy gears separate from the front case no problem. And don't think the mits cases come with gears.the topline does

Do oil pumps blow ever? or are they pretty sturdy for example on a turbo car that has 120,000 miles on it.

as long as you change your oil at least every 5000 miles and don't blow anything up causing debris to get into the pump, the stock pump should last you at least 263,000 miles with and still produce excellent pressure- that is what my car has on it with the original pump housing and gears
