oil pump failure at 80 mph... rebuild??

ok i was going 80 on the highway when the oil pump went out. i shut the engine off before it locked up so i saved it as much as possible. a new oil pump is on the way. im planning on replacing the pump cleaning it up changing oil filter and all and starting it. any advise on what to do?? also if i have to rebuild it it will not have stock internals. what is recommended to make great hp to have fun at the track and the streets.

The first step would be to drop the oil pan and check for metal bits, and to pull the bearings and look for scoring.

The stock 4G63 bottom end is pretty robust, and is more than adequate for a ~<=450hp build. Unless you're shooting for ludicrous horse power, I'd rebuild the block with stock internals and put the money elsewhere

If you shut if off immediately, throw a new pump in it and don't worry about it.

If it took you awhile, look for shavings in the oil and other signs of damage in the oil pan and head.

i shut it off immediately. it still drained oil long after i stopped. i have the new oil pump and it should be on in a few days. i will post my results and tell what is actually wrong

if my enginge is totally shot i will buy a very strong bottom end so i can push around 20 psi or higher maybe
