Oil Problem

Alright, so im having an issue with my turbo system. The turbo spools and i just rebuilt it but it is still smoking. I took everything apart that leads to my turbo and i found oil in my side mounted intercooler. i dont know if it is from before the turbo blew or more recent than that..please help and give advice. THANKS!

I would pull the intercooler and clean it. Also you could have oil in the exhaust that is still burning off. How do you have the crankcase vent system setup.

When you say "it's still smoking" are you referring to blue smoke from your exhaust? This could be several things, from oil still collected in your exhaust as Bryan said to bad valve/piston rings/valve seals.

As for oil pooled in your sidemount, this is a common problem which can be caused by something as simple as blow-by or something more upsetting such as a bad turbo. 90% of DSMs will have oil lining their intercooler piping system as well as their intercoolers. It tends to happen.

it was a pretty good amount of oil. when i mean smoke its like a large cloud of whiteish smoke. and i mean alot. i know my turbo isnt bad though cause i legitly just rebuilt it two days ago.

Places oil can get into the intake/exhaust from... and burn...

Turbo shaft seals
Crankcase breather system
valve stem seals
rings
bottom-center exhaust manifold stud.

...yes, the stud. The stud leaks oil. Yes it does. It shares space with an oil return passage.

One of the outside studs of the intake manifold is used to drill the head oil regulator connecting passage from the oil supply port on the deck... but I've never seen it leak. Maybe someone else has. I've seen about half the DSM's I've worked on leaking from the exhaust stud, though.

So pay attention to these bores if you ever pulled studs out of the head, and use a thin coat of RTV on the threads of those studs or else you can leak oil into the intake or exhaust. Neither one will fill up your intercooler like you described, but it will make you burn oil. Oil can only get into your intercooler from blow-by and your turbo's shaft seals. That's it. Nothing else is connected to the intake that's oiled.
