Oil pressure gauge needle jumping

So I was on my way to work today and I noticed that my prosport oil pressure gauge needle was jumping up and down quickly. Almost like it had a short. When I wired it up, I just used cheap speaker wire, so I don't know if thats just worn out after being on there for 5 months. The car has had the problem before where I will step on the clutch and the pressure will jump. But that never caused any problems, so I just went on and assumed that somewhere my wiring was interfering with the clutch pedal. Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone has ever had a similar problem and where I can get proper wires for the setup?

Clutch + oil pressure on a 2G, thats the moment people scream "crankwalk".

Whats jumping? 1psi? the whole gauge up and down?
You are sure the jumping isn't syncron with you turn signal?
Does you gauge have any switch on scan function?

Check you cables first.

check all the plugs and the wires first if they are not the problem then remove the OIL pan and check the crank if its moving , try to put pressure on it and see if it moves


if it moves a lot then its time to a 6 BOLT engine

I have never checked my crank endplay. But the clutch+oil pressure thing is something that happened for about 4 months, then I re-adjusted my clutch and that went away completely. I am confident that's not crankwalk, as much as it may seem. I've driven the car everyday and it has no driveability problems, no shavings in oil, etc. Today though, it just started jumping from idle psi(about 12) up to like 30 back and forth while I was sitting at the light (clutch out, car in neutral). It went away and the car was idling fine while it happened. I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

again check your wires and cables first , it may be as simple as that

check as well your gauge if its faulty

if its jumps when you are on neutral then iam sure its a faulty connection or gauge ( lift the car and check all the OIL electrical connections)

Good god. Do a decent job of wiring it for starters. After that, suspect the sender, then the gauge.

Where do you guys get this heavier wire? Only place that I can think of around me is radio sack, and they don't really have anything other than speaker wire.

Try your local auto parts store.

PS it's not how heavy the wire is, its the insulating material on the wire. Also it 's best to solder your connectors if possible.

Yea, I have the power supply wire soldered to the foglight switch power wire. And does the negative wire from the gauge have to go to the negative battery terminal, or can it just be grounded? When I did wire this up, as you can tell I did it kinda half ass. Please point me in the right direction?

Check your oil level. My gauge jumped around and I was just low on oil. The oil drain bolts on my turbo had worked loose and the oil was just dripping everywhere.

Added oil and tightened the bolts (replaced the gasket too) and it's been fine since.
