everytime i clean the oil up then go out and push the car i get oil all in the valve cover well where the spark plugs are and also on the hood... where could this be coming from? i did notice on the valve cover that theres a very small hole that goes all the way through to where the spark plugs are on the front ride corner of the valve cover... im thinking thats where the oil is coming from??? cause it doesnt leak at idle or anything.... just when i push the car.... can anyone help me please???? i have pics if you need to see the hole im talking about....

thanks,

Replace the valve cover gasket, and the spark plug well seals. Look for a cracked cam cover while you're there.

Yah. So do we.

the valve cover was replaced about 10,000 miles ago... i doubt thats the problem?? maybe the valve cover is cracked? i dunno...
im frustrated....

was looking over the valve cover for cracks and i did notice a small little crack where the pcv valve is.... im thinking i tightened it too much... i used some jb weld on that small area.... everywhere else looks fine on the valve cover and the valve cover gasket should be good too wasnt replaced too long ago....i did check all the valve cover bolts and i noticed they were kind of loose so i tightened all of them alittle bit and i also put another gasket on the oil cap so i have 2 on there now which im told helps.... so basically the valve cover is tightened, the small crack is sealed, the valve cover gasket is good, and the oil cap should be all set... im gonna take it out tomorrow night and see what happens... if it still leaks then im gonna replace the valve cover and valve cover gasket set....

Change the Oil Cap, or at least the oil cap gasket/o-ring, they dry up and leak quite a bit. that's usually what causes it. If that doesn't help, then change the valve cover gasket/sparkplug seals and the half moon, if that doesn't work, time for a new valve cover.

How are the pcv and breather routed? Catch can or stock locations? Have the dipstick pop out lately?

I agree :thumb:

Same thing happened to me and it was the oil filler cap, you can buy one at your mitsu dealer for under $10. I would try that first.

pcv valve is hooked up normally and the hose off the valve cover that goes to the intake hase a fuel filter inbetween it....... to catch oil.... i got 2 rubber gaskets on the oil cap now and i also tightened up the valve cover a bit because the bolts were lose.... im gonna try it out tonight and see what happens... i know the valve cover gasket was replaced about 10,000 miles ago or so....

thanks,

i think it might be the oil overspill hole because the oil cap is new, the valve cover is tight, the gasket is good..... everytime i check the oil its not low at all..... its actually over the 2nd mark on the dipstick....so im thinking theres too much oil and thats why its spilling out of the over spill hole....

i put the plastic cover with the 5 bolts over the spark plug well and drove the car today... when i opened the hood it looked perfect it wasnt sprayed on the hood underneather or the spark plug wires like it usually is..... im lead to believe its leaking under that plastic cover some where..... my only guess is that small pin size hole that goes straight through.... i believe this because right where the hole is there like a oil spray mist right on the spark plug wires.... i think its that hole.... theres no where else under it could be coming from.....

Cool. Here's the update. Opened up the valve cover, and the #1 spark plug well was the only one leaking oil into the well. Oddly enough the gasket was still there. all four infact were in the same condition. Clean with no signs of wear. Finally I cleaned up the seals and the valve cover and put some RTV as extra support. Currently it is drying and setting and I will have an update as to whether the RTV in combination with the existing gaskets stop the leak.

can that small pin size hole on the valve cover be plugged? im pretty sure thats where the oil is coming from...

When running my car over 15psi it stutters bad.So i decided to check my compression. The #4 i got 130psi.When i went to take out the spark plug on #2...the tip was soaked with oil.Dripping to be exact.Didnt bother to check the rest. It`s not the valvecover gasket or the o-rings for the plug wells either.Guys have any idea what might be the problem? My buddy is telling me it might be the HG or the valve seals. But i wont know for sure until i pull the head off.I just wanted to get a feel for the worse case scenario. Also, the plugs are all almost white. Thanks guys!!!

Probably a seal gone bad if you find oil in the plugs, the sputtering usually goes away when the plugs/wires are replaced.

If not, check for boost leaks.

while changing the spark plugs on my 98 eclipse I noticed oil on the plug when I pulled it.
Since I'm kind of now to all this I was wondering if I have a small problem or is this a symptom of something big.
Thanks in advance for any help

Well, with oil on your plugs it COULD indicate something big, but likely it isn't. Start with the smaller stuff first. Change your "O" rings. If this doesn't work, look for cracks in your valve cover. Sometimes they're incredibly small and you can't see them while it's on. If you pull the cover and go into a dark room w/ a flashlight you'll get a much better idea. If all of this doesn't work, next step is a compression test. Mmm...

Compression Test

It's not hard at all. Oh, and if you're worried about prices... everything I've described will run you $40 bucks...

1. $20 bucks for the rings
2. $20 bucks for the compression tester (Autozone, NAPA, Even Walmart)

Yes start with the easy stuff, Spark Plug Seals..Ect..Ect. I had the same problem over a year ago turned out to be my rings. Let me guess was the oil on the 3 or 4 cylinder spark plug...it seems to me like the Piston Rings on thouse two pistons are the 1st to go on a 420A Motor.

It all depends on if you do it your self or have a shop do it, I was getting ready to go turbo so I just bought a whole new motor rebuild kit. That was very expensive but I did all the work myself which in the long run I think saved me money. It all depends on what your willing to spend. Yes it is very time consumming. But if you dont have the now how, or the cash to do it now you should be fine for a lil while. Ask yourself this, how is the car running? Are you blowing any colored smoke out your exhaust? These signs should tell you weather or not you need to have it done now. If yout not planning on going turbo I would get a rebuild kit with a high comp ratio. or if you do plan to go turbo get one with a lower comp ratio they make rebuild kits for both applications

Well last week my car overheated and was on H i guess the thermostat was stuck, anyways, only cylinder 1 and 3 spark plug around the threads had oil on them, I will probaly do a compression check, just wondering if you guys can tell me anything else.
