thanks again
Will do, plus this is a good time to switch out those crappy spark plugs that were in it :|
besides that I have many plans for this car, focusing on the body work until I have the money for performance engine parts.
:talon: go go gadget All-Wheel-Drive LOL

here you go I'm betting your valve cover gasket and spark plug well gaskets are fudged.. and that's why you're leaking oil into your spark plug

Yup, that is most likely the case. It should only take you 60-90 minutes to swap in the new one. Have fun with your new toy, but take care of her too. Welcome to the DSM world. =)

ok i have owned a 92 tsi talon and now i have a 91 both had the same problem, i would pull the spark plug cover off and in the valley where the plug caps are in the corners and stuff theres like oil not residue but oil nasty black oil, i have seen pics of other car and they have this too is it normal or what, thanks for the help :thumb:

Change the oil filler cap gasket. Maybe nice to change your valve cover gasket too if you haven't done that since it will mean its getting old.

has anyone ever seen this
i changed my plugs out because when i bought my car it had bosch platinums and i read that platinum is bad for a turbo car

i installed plugs from zex and the car seems to run ok
no knocking etc etc
but i pulled a plug today and all four looked like they had a drop or two of oil on the washer at the top of the threads.
i used that thick silver anti sieze compound that you get in the small single use pack at any auto parts store on the threads. could this oil be the residue of that stuff or do i have a problem

the car doesnt smoke, or seem to use oil and the motor is only about 10K miles old
so i am hoping it is just the anti sieze
any ideas anyone

i can pull one and post a pic of the plug (they all look the same)
but basically
small bit of yellowish oil on the threads
first thread near the ground is black
and the center electrode is white
i have about 200 miles of pretty hard driving on the new plugs
i have been thinking about putting NGK in but I am confused on which ones to
get. I see the BPR7ES, and the BKR7E listed in various forums here. Both are called the better one.
which one do I get for mine

thanks

First get the BKR7E one range colder plugs, they are the best for turbo charged 420a's. Also your grommets might be leaking and that is why your getting oil on the plugs. Just buy them and the dealer youll need 4 and remove the vavle cover and replace them.

great so i will get the NGK BKR7E
I found them on partsamerica.com for 1.34 each so that cant be too bad
i will give them a try should I leave the gap without changing it or where should it be set
as far as the grommets go
i will talk to my engine builder and see when he can get it in
fortunatly it isnt a lot of oil less than a drop per plug
and there are no signs of fouling so hopefully it wont get any worse until i can get the car in

thanks

I pulled my spark plugs and the one for the #1 cylinder had oil ALL over it, is this because of bad piston rings or is it something else?

Do a compression test, that'll tell you if the rings are bad.

When was the last time you replaced your Valve Cover Gasket? If the gasket rings are bad...it will leak...Just a thought...good luck

ok here is a pic of the plugs that came out of the car
they now have about 400 miles on them before I switched the NGK BKR7E
does anyone see any problems

well... theres been oil all over my engine bay for awhile, i thought my valve cover just had a small crack in it... well yesterday i pulled the 1st plug wire out (the 1st one on passenger side) and i saw oil around the bottom of the boot... i thought ok.. maybe normal.. so i checked the other 3 nope dry.... what does this mean....i mean there shouldnt be any oil in the cyl... my front o2 sensor is screwed up.. but i dont think that has anything to do with it.... my guess is pistion rings...? What could this be.. and how much is it going to cost to fix.. i dont notice a loss in power...

oh yea at park and in Neutral the idle surges to 2 and goes back to 1 i think thats just due to a vaccum leak...

my mods are Big16G Turbo and Cat-Back exhaust basically.

are you sure that's not the #4 plug wire you're talking about.....but that's not really important. there are a couple reasons you could be getting oil in there. there is a gasket down in each hole that seals between the valve cover and the head tata could be bad.
OR my oil cap gasket is bad and when i hit boost, oil seeps out of there and onto my valve cover and for some reason only gets in my #4 spark plug wire hole. so maybe that could be your problem if you have a puddle of oil on your valve cover.

and for your idle surge check your ISC and maybe your FIAV. hope this helped. :thumb:
good luck

A friend is having the same or similar problem on her car. Oil is filling up in one of the spark plug holes.

Assuming it is the rubber gasket/o-ring you mentioned. Is this as simple as removing the valve cover and install new o-ring?

Thanks

yep. if you dont have a manual though(like a haynes or chiltons) you might want to get one because there is a certain order to tighten those bolts and a cetain torque too.

So i took off my sparkplug wire cover off and DAMN there was a pool of oil there...i took off all the plugs (wasn't high enough to get into them) to see if it was coming from there...nope...so now i dont know where the oil came from any suggestions?
