Oil light

Hey guys, 1999 eclipse rs

After my car is driven for around 10 minutes, while stopped my oil light turns on? I checked the oil level and its good. I just don't understand why it only turns on while stopped? I put it in nuetral and gave it a little gas and it turns off.

Recently had an oil change, around 200 miles ago. maybe it was the wrong oil type? Thanks for your help!

what oil weight are you running? and is it dino oil or synthetic?

My bf took it in, so i have no idea!
should i get it changed before taking it too the shop or just take it in?

My guess is that your running too thin of oil. make sure to put 10w30 in.
with the 420a engine that the RS has most people prefer 10w30 and use synthetic oil.

and that depends, how far is the shop? are you (or your bf) capable of changing oil yourselves?
i would change it as soon as you can so that it doesn't cause any problems down the road.

I live a couple blocks away from an oil change shop. I just wasn't sure if that would fix the problem or not. I was looking up info and it said it might be the oil pump or the sensor. A new oil pump installed could cost between 300-600 dollars? eek !

I guess i should start with the easy stuff first? change the oil and see if it still happens?

the reason the oil pump is so costly is because you have to take the timing belt off and get in there which is a very tight fit. but that price is too high. i would shop around. and anything involving timing i would recommend taking to a professional unless you feel comfortable and confident that you or someone you know can do it. if done at home and done right could be a weekend job. less then that if nothing goes wrong at all. the worst thing is that there is no gasket behind the oil pump. just a lot of rtv sealant which if done wrong can leak oil and cause the pump to prematurely go bad.

start with the easy stuff first tho. change the oil. change the oil cap too if that doesn't work. then look into other things like the new oil pump. Melling is one of the better brands i have found for the 420a.

Yea I read about how hard it is to get to the oil pump. It would be best to let the pro's do it!
