My car threw the oil warning light today on the way home. I checked the oil level and it's right where it should be. Any clue why this would come on otherwise?

Flicker, or solid?

First check the push-on connector to the sender, which is so cleverly mounted right in the goddamned wind/water/gravel stream at the front of the bottom of the motor, by the oil filter. If it's not loose nor otherwise insecure (ask it if it really is comfortable with how its mother used to discipline it), keep an eye on the light and if you get any more guff out of it, replace the sender.

Sometimes when your starting in 1st gear and you let the rpm's drop to low while the clutch is still coming out it will flick the oiil light for a second. (usually round 500 or less rpm's)

and what is really nice isthat the wire is so short that any excessive engine motion will cause it to come off or the conenctor will come loose and fall off.

Had to add a connector to mine with some extra wire = fixed

actually the light is on solid, not just flickering. If the wire is disconnected from the sensor doesn't that mean it WOULDN'T throw the light since there's no signal getting to the wire? I checked my oil today and level was right where it should be. Changed the oil and filter at work and still same light. There was signs of a few drops of oil right by the dummy light so maybe it's just old and needs to be replaced? I have an extra one somewhere so I'll try and swap them.

p.s. My friend broke the connector so we literally just stripped a section of the wire and wrapped it around the pole a few times. If in fact having the wire NOT connected is what throws the light then that's what might be causing it, however I thought then it couldn't throw a light since there's no signal getting to the wire?
