im thinking about stripping my oil sending unit, cleaning, and inspecting it.

what are the critical parts and can those be replaced via dealer/steeler? without getting the whole unit which is 400$

and if possible where have some of you bought a full replacement? aftermarket?

thanks

Autometer sells a replacement oil pressure sender with their gauges. If you want real oil pressure readings anyway, the stock gauge won't do since it's incredibly inaccurate. By contrast the Autometer will cost you $50.00 as opposed to a dealership piece. Wiring is easy and it's something I'd recommend if you really want to know what your pressure's doing. The only thing you'll need to make the Autometer sender work is a 1/4 to 1/5" brass reducer and some teflon tape to make sure it doesn't leak when you install it.

Hope that helps,

Andy

The sending unit comes with the new oil pressure guage. You'll just need the fitting like andymoraitis said to bolt it to the housing. I'm not 100% sure but I think you leave the stock one in place and use an empty port in the housing for the new sending unit. I saw a pic of one earlier I'll try to find it for you.

Found it. He as other things running from his housing but you can see what looks like the stock sending unit and the brass colored autometer one below it. Autometer also sells a braided relocation kit if you want to mount the sending unit somewhere else. I read something about the engines vibration in higher rpm 4 cylinders causing the units to leak and remote mounting them is said to be better.

wow that looks amazing.....

btw im talking about the unit in which the oil filter screw onto.. is this autometer replacing it?

and thanks for the pics and help!

that would be the oil filter housing. what problems are you having with it? i know theres a gasket you can replace, haha but thats all i know about.. why do you want to?

No autometer or any aftermarket gauge will not replace that..

Rex is correct. It screws onto the front of the filter housing and the stock unit stays in place on the back half. Other than the adapter and teflon tape, nothing else is needed other that wiring for the gauge itself. If you look at the front of your housing, you'll see that there are extra holes blocked off for this purpose as well for future use as oil feed lines for non-Mitsu turbos.

The only bad thing about the Autometer units is that they have a tendency to go bad within a couple of years from the vibration of the motor. This isn't a big issue if you still have the balance shafts in the motor and replacements only cost something like $25.00.

Keep in mind that you do NOT need to drain the oil when adding a new sending unit. You'll lose a little bit, but it wouldn't be any more than a few ounces.
