I'm not sue what I've done wrong. But it seems serious....

I've had an oil leak for about a week now, and can't seem to find where its coming from.
At first it looked like it was coming from the OFH gasket, and being flung by the timing belt around the engine bay. I took some brake cleaner and orange degreaser to the block, and got it all cleaned up.
Now the leak looks to be coming from around the HG itself.
I replaced a blown hg back in feb and did a retorque of the studs to 90lbs after about 1200 miles I'm wondering if something went wrong with the reinstall.
Or if there's some other explanation out there.

I'll be posting pics of the current oily condition after I get off work today then ill clean it up again and post some pics of that

The only place pressurized oil is fed to the head is on the last head bolt hole on the exhaust side cloest to the bellhousing.

There are many oil returns from the head to the block, but they are gravity fed.

When you replaced the HG, was the head surfaced at that time?
What HG did you use?

Did you do a BSE at the time?

Had this issue more than once and the valve cover gasket gave way. If you torque it to tight it will cause it to prematurely leak. Also under hood heat fries them quick. Just something to check out. They leak all over the place like you are describing and it was hard to tell, thought it was my banjo crush washer and then the turbo, and then the head gasket until i did a very good inspection after some hard driving and it was the valve cover gasket.

Thnx for both your suggestions so far, but the leak is on the cyl 1 side of the engine

As for resurfacing the head, no I did not . There was less than .001" in difference across the head surface and .002" across the block surface.

The hg is a felpro permatorque. Not sure what the bse is.

As for the valve cover leak there was one on the cyl 4 side of the engine but it was loose bolt and no longer leaking

This.. Definitely check this. I was chasing a similar leak earlier this summer and couldnt find it for the life of me.. Then upon re-torquing my head studs after I got the VC off I noticed the gasket was split right over the first intake cam cap.

A valve cover leak some times makes seem to be a head gasket. Have you check how are your Camshaft seals?, check them, maybe they are toast, leaking and making the way down to the spot where you are looking the oil.

I'll second this. I had a cam seal fail, and it would leak oil clear down to the OFH as well, leaving stains wherever I parked. I got frustrated tracking it down and took the car to a garage; they found the leak with a smoke test.

Thnx guys
Any suggestions on vc gaskets?
I took a long look and noticed the oil coming from just above the
exh cam and a bad internal water pump seal (oil was covering the coolant coming from the weep hole)
I gonna check the torque on the studs while I'm in there
Any suggestions on other things to check while I've got the vc off??
