I have a quick question that i can't figure out. I recently noticied a leak coming from my oil filter area. So i jacked up my car and found oil coming from being the stock oil cooler that the oil filter sits on(Not were the oil filter comes in contact with the oil cooler the other side of the oil cooler that comes into contact with the oil filter bracket). My question is could the bolt that the oil filter attaches to come loose causing the oil cooler to not make a proper seal therfor leak oil? Or is there a gasket that goes between the oil cooler and the oil filter bracket? Has anyone had this problem. Here is a picture of what i am talking about. http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h218/Spoolin03/OilFilterHousing-1.jpg

Yes it can and it does come loose. Remove the oil filter and remove the center bolt(15/16"wrench). Clean the centerbolt and the threads in the oil filter housing with brakekleen and reinstall with Red locktite and tighten the center bolt snug. If you have time let it sit over night before you install the filter and start it.

that is perfect, that answers all of my questions about that.....!!!!!!!!!! I am stocked, I just got a mint condition tsi awd for 800 dollars because of that problem, the kid thought the engine was F'ed

Be sure to torque that bolt to proper specifications. Too much and you will crush the insides resulting in oil and anti-freeze mixing.
