I'm pretty sure I crushed the honeycomb in my new 6 bolt swap, or i got a crushed housing, either way. It's a new engine from a 6 bolt swap.

Symptoms are pushing approx a half quart of oil in 250 miles it seems all into oil. (maybe some mystery leaks still, new build) I do not see any coolant in the oil. (Composite head gasket, 15 psi boost, arp's) The coolant over flow bottle seems to really catch it.

THE QUESTION: Can I remove the cooler section on this 1g oil filter housing, and replace it with my working 2g oil filter housing cooler honey comb section?

I know that the entire 1g vs 2g oil filter housings are not compatible, so that's out of the question.

i agree, but this is more of a DD for me, so the water cooler is sufficient; plus I already have these parts laying around if they are compatible. It doesn't make sense not to use what I have on hand.

listen there are huge v8's out there with NO type of oil cooler there are alot of high hp cars includeing 4g63 that don't have any problems with no type of oil cooling, me being one of them. Buy a forward facing filter housing and call it a day. No oil cooler at all. Plus it makes it alot easier to get the filter off esp if you have a 3" dp

Aren't those type of cars not daily driven therefore they do not need to cool the oil? The purpose of cooling oil is to prevent breakdown of oil. High hp cars probably get an oil change after a day at the track.

I always wander if you could. Chances are though that iit is probably not only mixing the coolant and oil but it is probably leaking

Why not just plug the 2 ports on the housing for the cooler lines? its 16mm x1.5

because I have a water cooled oil filter housing. you would need to plug the [edit: water holes] holes, as it is leaking oil into that space now.

Do you know if the 2g cooler section is compatible with the 1g cooler section- like can I just unscrew one and the other one in?

Point of the oil coolers are to keep the oil cool not just to break it down oil takes a very high temp to break down. I did daily drive a gsx with no cooling everyday and drove it pretty hard. I had a oil temp gauge and oil went up at the most 5 degrees before and after and most of the time it stayed the same, i only saw a difference when i was out driving hard. . Unless you are out driving the piss out of your car for hours then you are not going to have any problems. Trust me. That car ran great and never had a problem with it.

The factory water-to-oil "cooler" isn't only about cooling: it also assists engine warm up, and helps the engine maintain a constant running temperature, lessening the load on the ECU, and making emissions and fuel consumption figures more consistent.

Honda's dont have oil coolers.. Even my boy's 11 second turbo'd SOHC VTEC hatch has NO oil cooling, and its his DD.. dont worry about oil cooling.. you should be able to find another housing off another six bolt.. a 90, like mitch26753 said... you can find them all over the yards, if you look...

I heart emission's... :notgood: haha

i'm so glad someone knew the answer. Thanks Man!

And maybe i can press you for a little more here--- are 2g cooling sections as prone to getting crushed as 1g cooling sections?

Yeah they're both junk. You know what i think you should do. If you want to keep on having problems with them then go ahead and put that cooler back on.

Well I hope not to see you post again in a few weeks about how your filter loosened up and dumped all of your oil.

Since you are going to insist on using the POS water to oil unit, do yourself a huge favor and red loctite the hollow stud after first cleaning it and the mating threads with brake cleaner.

I'm just saying that it'd be ridiculous to get something like that from the dealership instead of trader or something else like that.

It'd make just as much sense as getting the external oem unit from a dealer.
