I have a small 16g. I have a 4an oil feed from head and 10an oil drain. my problem is my oil drain is making a hard bend. I am using 2 straight fittings ( one on turbo one on the oil pan). My turbo is blowing oil. Is there any signs to show which may be causing the problem?

Yeah, a kink.

Switch the lower fitting to a 90*, or replace both with 45*'s to solve the problem.

Actually the best bet would be to lose that line altogether and go with a factory metal drain which can't kink since you're running a MHI turbo.

I wa considering doing a 90° fitting. Will it be any better or should i just go back to the factory drain. I will have to buy either the fitting or drain. In your opinion which will be better.

100% agree with Justin, get rid of that complicated mess and order the 2G oil drain from JNZtuning. Only mod needed to do is slightly slot the bolt holes inward a bit more on the flange that meets the turbo cartridge. Then make a couple new gaskets (or buy), couple copper or aluminum crush washer on the bolts to the oil pan flange and you are 100%. The 2G drain I.D. is bigger than the I.D. of 10an fittings anyway, if you think about it

OEM Oil Return Line-2G DSM : JNZ Tuning
Less then $20 shipped :thumb:

do you agree justin? It would be much easier to get a 90 degree fitting and fix it

Aftermarket drains suck....so, yeah.

Guys are forever dealing with kinks on setups where a stock line WON'T fit- here you have a situation where an OEM 1G drain would bolt right on, or modify the top flange on a 2G drain and it will work too. Seems foolish to run some shitty setup that would kink.

how would i bolt it up to the oil pan? I wouldnt need to drop the oil pan would i?

I used and ordered, my push lock kit from extreme psi, and cut the hose to fit, had no issues so far, however a hose clamp can help you if you still have vacuum issues

vacuum issues? i am not too sure if the drain is my problem. but i am going to attempt to put the factory 1g drain back on. The seals seemed okay when i took the turbo apart but i will be buyijg a rebuild kit.

i found out today that it is not smoking bad in first or really second. but the higher gears 3,4,5 it will smoke bad after i go about half throttle for about 3 seconds. Could this be a sign of my oil drain. I dont want to go through the trouble of changing it if i need to rebuild the turbo too.

I've had a stainless drain on a 16g setup I was running and had kinking issues . If you really want to run a stainless drain the 45 degree Would work but I would suggest putting the stock drain tube on .

Everyone is recommending i do that, its just such a hassel. You think the 45 will work better than the 90? Were you blowing oil?

You've had 4 different people tell you to just put on a stock return, I will be the 5th. Please just change out your drain line.

ok....... what if i decide to change my turbo, which i am considering, plus i dont want to have to take down the oil pan if it is not needed. If it is the route i have to go(which it isnt) then ill do it.

I use this. Cut the line to fit. No kinks at all. Straight on top and 45* on bottom.
It came in a kit

I am thinking the 45 but i just feel the 90 would be better. Do you think a 90 will fit without hitting the oil pan or the block? im still thinking my turbo is the problem, but i want to do the drain right while im at it

You don't have to pull the pan to use a stock drain.

And dude, as long as there is no kinks then it does not matter if you use a 90 or a 45. Either will be fine as long as there are no kinks. Obviously, they both work. So just pick one.

^ pretty much. On my appl. I don't see a 90* at the pan working. I like the straight/45*. If you don't use a stock drain just make sure of no kinks. 90* 45* they all drain the same.

I know i just have to pick one, BUT WHAT ONE? LOL my friend has a 45 10 an he is letting me borrow tommorrow, im going to see what i think. Also i have known i need a restrictor since the factory 1g feeds from the head have an oil restrictor. So i just purchased a restrictor, and i know my oil pressure is a little higher because balance shaft eliminator. hopefully both solve my blowing smoke problem. If not, time for a turbo rebuild!

You're making this way harder than it needs to be IMHO. You don't need to drop the pan, exhaust or anything else. Just get under the car undo the 4 bolts holding the drain on and throw that crap in the 'last resort' bin. Buy the OEM drain from JNZ (2g drain is much cheaper+100% better) wait 4-7 days and wham-o you're home-free from oil backup in any homeade drain. You realize our OEM drains are bigger than some Holset drains?

But you're still gonna use fittings though aren't ya. Well think about this, if you went on a Waterslide you wouldn't want to end up at a sudden 90* at any time, you'd most likely prefer a 45* for ease of descend.

LOL you guys are killing me.there is a plate on the inside of the pan that the an fitting screws into. Does the factory drain screw into the same plate? (previous owner did it)

This is what a stock pan looks like, one hole and two threaded holes on either side. Then the drain tube bolts onto the pan with a gasket in between. So you're SOL then I take it? Well then that blows. You sure it's not a bolt on adapter plate? They sell a few variations of adapter plates.

I guess then let us know how that 45* AN fitting for ya tomorrow, can you get pics?

I also bought the restrictor. I will take a before and after pic of drain. my friend gave me a 10 an 45 fitting. I wil install when i get a day that isnt snowing :p. im hoping the combination of restrictor and drain fix will solve my problem

My 16G seems to like the standard .070" restrictor that JusMX141 usually suggests in his threads

P.S.
You can keep the snow storms, we've had enough!

LOL believe me i dont want any snow. GO NEW ENGLAND! LOL.

Another thing i noticed today was the car smokes more in boost for the first 15 min of driving. When it fully warms up, it is not as bad (another sign of oil drain i believe, not able to drain the thick cold oil) does that sound right to anyone?
