Milton,
Hey,

My buddy and I are in the process of swapping in a 6 bolt in his 2g Talon. I've noticed many people on here mount their oil coolers behind the bumper on the drivers side infront of the drivers side wheel. When we removed the bumper we found this black box there

Can anybody identify this piece? Upon further inspection it appears the box was moved there (possibly from previous owner) as two zip ties and one bad tapped bolt was holding it in place.

My question is, is there a possible way to remove this piece? All the vacuum lines that are hooked up to it run across the frount of the car then back to another piece located near the beneath of the battery tray. See pic (It's the round black piece with the vacuum line going into the top, and another into the side)

Also, if I'm not mistaken some of these vacuum lines go to the stock intake manifold. BUT, the car is running a Magnus Intake Manifold (again from previous owner) so all these vacuum lines are all cut and capped or plugged in some way. So none of the vacuum lines appear to be functional. The only problem I can see is that their is some sort or wiring clip that hooks up to the box in the first picture.

Any info? More pictures can be taken if needed.

Thanks! :)

There is no picture. From your description, it sounds like the Charcoal Canister was relocated to the front, but I don't know about the wiring clip.

Are the pictures not showing up?? If not, i've included clickable links below the pics.

I see them, no its not the factory charcoal canister, but then maybe the previous owner decided to use a non OEM canister? That is NOT a factory piece in that picture. Anyway to contact the previous owner? Alot of us do not have a charcoal canister and there are removal info for this and the other devices in the emmisions system located in the tech articials.

Thanks for your help. I did see the charcoal canister tech articles just didn't think it was the same thing. I have no way of getting in contact with the previous owner :notgood:

I'm going to try to take some more detailed pictures of the box tonight.

NOTE: Just incase someone misunderstands me. I'm not talking about the black can with the down arrow on it (Althought that is hooked up to the box). I'm talking about the rectangular box behind it.

Alright just another update. I had a chance of checking out a stock 2G Talon this weekend and that box was there. So it is an OEM piece.

Any other opinions? I'm lost at this point

Still trying to get my hand on a camera to take some pictures.

Thanks

Umm, i know i'm new, but i have to disagree. I dont know what it is, but my car has that black box too. same exact location. I have a 99 gsx and you can see that black box directly behind the driver side vent. When you remove those dumb little vent covers on the bumper it sits right there. i'm not pretending like I know what it is, but it is OEM and mine is still there. i know thats not the exact answer you are looking for, but is verification of the part belonging.
