So yeah, fired my car up for the first time (in a long time) yesterday afternoon. This is after putting a stock block with stock 20 over pistons in. The head was machined and fitted with new valves and guides. It took a little while because I think the gas was old and crappy... it was 92 octane, but it still probably jelled. Anyway, so I've got a lot of gas in the tank now and I used starting fluid, I did get it to start up and idle, the problem is, I am noticing oil coming from the downpipe where it would connect to the catalytic converter. It's not connected right now, but I still would like someone to offer some insight as to why it wouldn't start again and why there's oil coming out of the downpipe.

I am going to pull the spark plugs out here in a bit and check them to see if they're oily. I hope this thing is botched from the get go, I would be incredibly pissed after all this time it's been down and I spent rebuilding.

And anyhow, thanks to anyone that can help. Cheers.

(please let me know if there's any info you need that I left out)

I still haven't gotten around to checking yet, I will do it tonight. One other thing I wanted to ask was... the turbo was fine last time it was on the car, no smoke, no shaft play, boosted fine. What would've caused it's seals to go bad? Sitting for too long? High oil pressure? I'm really trying to find out because I will not be rebuilding a 14b, and I do not want to ruin a brand new e16g if there's some other underlying issue that's causing problems.

why so much engine work? Did you have a kaboom? My Tsi burns a little oil when cold, but when those forged pistons get warm, watch out!

Do you have oil in both side of the turbo or just the exhaust. You said you did valves and guides, do you know if there is a problem in the valve train?

Some ideas to sulk about.

I am not sure that the oil drain is the problem. I wonder what would cause my oil pressure to be so high.

I just suggested it because they go hand in hand with turbos. There are two ways to cause a turbo seal to blow.
1) Too much oil coming in. (High oil pressure)
2) Too little oil going out. (Problem with drain)

Are you still pulling oil from the head, or are you pulling from the oil filter housing? The housing produces much more pressure. Did you remove your balance shafts? High volume oil pump?

Well.... the motor was rebuilt from a junkyard block because the last motor had crappy machine work and kept developing a no compression issue on the same cylinder after changing piston rings twice.... I will check plugs and hot/cold sides of turbo tonight and I will post an update. Thanks for everyone's help.
